So yesterday I did a post asking if it was doable without consumables, gems, etc, basically without twinking out your character and spending a whole load of gold. It was doable, but the consumables etc, made it easier.
I started attempting it yesterday and couldn’t see me ever doing it, got Kruul to 9% a couple of times. But 4th pull today I did it.
I watched loads of different guides, taking bits from each one. The best thing I noticed was in Sunes guide on YouTube, he was using the orbs to prolong the first Annihilate. I tried this and the first time I tried it, I did it.
I did it in mainly Shadowlands gear; I used the night fae covenant set, PvP rings, Heart of Azeroth, Claws of Ursoc, and Ravaged Seed Pod trinket, plus another trinket from Emerald Nightmare raid that gave me agility and chance for haste on hit (can’t remember its name).
I didn’t spend loads on consumables, it took me 96 pulls in total according to DBM, and I only made it to stage 2 24 times (based on the amount of drums I had left over). Only consumables I used were Potion of Unbridled Fury, Shadowcore Oil, Drums and Bear Tartare food.
It was hard, not gunna lie, but here’s the unpopular opinion… I’m glad it’s hard. It made me really work for it and once I got it, the feeling of elation I got was so worth it. Not felt that for a game in years! It felt even better because I’m not an elitist, I just play casually, and I only spent about 4k gold to do it. (Maybe a bit more on repairs actually, I think maybe closer to 6k in total).
But anyway if this helps anyone, great.
My top tips for doing this challenge would be;
- Get the Ravaged Seed Pod trinket.
- Prolong the first Annihilate with orbs, rather than trying to prolong the 4th, as near to the end of Kruuls casts as you can.
- Take a break and come back to it. I played about 4 hours and I ended up making silly mistakes. Didn’t play again until this evening and did it in 4 goes, thought I’d be there all night.
- If you have the gold, pop a Potion of Unbridled Fury just before you enter, you’ll get about 20 seconds of it on Phase 1 for extra damage, and it’s cooldown will reset when entering the mage tower so you still have it for Kruul. (I didn’t do this because I’m not rich enough). But the quicker you kill Variss the less infernals you have to deal with in phase 2.
- Watch different guides on YouTube and follow their positioning and almost pretend it’s you doing it… sounds silly but watching guides I felt like I had done it already. Honourable mentions;
- Sune
