Morning Azerothians
Last night only my 23rd attempt I completed the Enhance Shaman Mage Tower, I’ve currently attempted multiple attempts on the following characters. (I’m going to also add my opinion on a difficulty scale).
- Demonology Warlock 8.5
- Destruction Warlock 9
- Havoc DH 9.5
- Balance Druid 9
- Fury Warrior 7
- Enhance Shaman 7.5
- Unholy DK 9
- BM Hunter - Any mistake you dead
I want it to also be said the rating I’ve given is also based on SOO gear and consumables.
On each of these I’ve tried over 5 times each to find a starting point of the easiest in my opinion based on the evidence I accrued in the attempts on chances of success. This was narrowed very quickly to either Fury/Enhancement and with the enhance set being the one I massively preferred I choose to essentially sit in my chair and “bang these attempts out”.
Three things became very apparent when thinking back to this tower challenge in legion compared to now.
- Wow I’m incredibly bare bones as a class compared to what I could do in Legion mechanically, yet all the mechanics are still present to deal with (if not more frequent).
- This is now a noticeable DPS race compared to its Legion counterpart.
- The difficulty between classes on the same challenge is actually nuts.
Now fortunately for me I had taken some initiate starting 3 weeks prior and farmed weekly heroic SOO every week, this was to obtain ilvl 45/47(wf) gear with 2/3 sockets.
If you’ve not done this it’s probably worth it if you’re aiming for just one class completion, especially if it’s just as a DPS. 15 extra +3 Main stat gems and old enchants make a BIG difference.
Why am I recommending this, because quite simply the Mage Tower event: God Queens Fury is truly a DPS race first as maximising damage will stop the roadblock I had so many times which was at around the 15% remaining HP I’d have to deal with triple enrage off all 3 mobs. Don’t buy +3 gems from the AH if you can help it to socket use your BG’s honour token things to buy the gems at capital!
Luckily as an enhancement shaman I get free bloodlust as you’re defiantly going to need this.
I would say 20 attempts was spent just nailing the mechanics, the final few was then to spend the big money on all the consumes I could use per pull to now maximise damage, (Flask/Potion/Rune/Drums/Food) and so here lies the problem.
I would be very impressed if not massively pessimistic to believe anyone who has done the following challenges: Havoc, Guardian, all 3 Hunter, Balance, Unholy Dk did it without cheese.
I’m talking for example with special mastery buffing trinkets, demon killing potions, cyclone abuse to removing phases.
My recommendations
Method 1: Allow one legion legendary to be used, gets people out in the world doing old content to farm for it.
Method 2. Small initial nerfs to each Mage Tower event.
The God-Queens Fury – 7% HP Nerf to all 3 bosses.
Thwarting the Twins – 6% HP Nerf to Raest and Hand from Beyond spawns 50% less.
I believe you should also nerf how quick Karam gets his speed increase from enrage but a triple nerf would be too much and this would favour mage massively.
An Impossible Foe – Fix add spawn rates, fix interruption methods on the imps that heal. 5% reduction to HP and shield cast.
Really, I made this post to discuss some thoughts and suggestions on what I’ve experienced so far as a DPS.
What people thoughts on the other challenges and potential adjustments.
I will say completely the challenge didn’t make me feel very rewarded just thankful.
I can understand the arguement that if you only took -25 attempts to do the enhancement one whats the problem? Well I said it’s noticably easier then others and I did 33/36 back in Legion so this should be more of a dance to complete as opposed to given people lesser rewards now at the cost of a harder experience to it’s past version.
