Mage Tower: Stats on nerfed gear

Hey all,

Is there a way to tell what the stats on gear with ilvl >50 will get nerfed to BEFORE entering the tower?

Also, I know the Heart of Azeroth/Shroud of Asjrakamas powers don’t work in the Mage tower, but do their stats work?

I don’t think theres an easy way to tell unless someone has made a tool or something.

But yes, the stats work on all items, its just any legacy effects that have been disabled. So HoA is a good neck to use, the legendary cloaks are also good to use. Note you can put pretty good enchants on them too since they are low level (mark of the hidden satyr for example)

That doesn’t even mean anything…

I could headbutt the numpad and whatever I type would me as meaningful as that.

It’s hard to tell, I know some change out their stat allocation when you go in and some scale better but the general rule of thumb is HoA is nice because it has 3 secondary stats with it, same for the leggo cloak from BFA. Anything with sockets at or around ilvl 50 is also a nice bonus, ghost iron dragonling with relics of the past V to put it to ilvl 54 is nice. Can throw in Cogwheel sockets for +12 to some stats, or +16 if you have cata Engineering to 75.

Unblinking Gaze of Sethe from Hellfire Citadel is a good one even though the ilvl is 45. Annoying to farm unless you have the skip to the boss (Shadow-lord iskar)

Ravaged seed pod from the first boss of Emerald Dream has a nice aoe pool that gives you leech if you sit in it too.

If you have the Cyclonic Blaster card in the Pocket-Sized Computation Device that chunks down mob/boss HP but is annoying to farm to at mechagon by now if you don’t have it.

Unstable Arcanocrystal from Legion world boss if you have it has 4 secondary stats on it which is great.

There’s honestly a bunch more of stuff that but it’s mostly trinkets, maybe weapons, and gear with sockets/extra stats that really were not looked into and properly ‘scaled down’.

Thanks as ever, helpful peeps

Yeah, i used what i had in my bank from previous expansions LOL and its better then standard SL gear, especialy if you use your nethershards to buy gear from the npc near the the challenge, or with the ankoan currency (forgot how tis called) from nazjatar and keep buyng till you get socket on it and the stats you want

Thanks for the idea! Have only been playing endgame since 8.3, when SL launched I thought I should sell all my gear for bank space, but really glad now that my OCD made me keep some

in all fairness its easier to go for nethershards as the gear is lvl50 (which can take most of the strong old enchants)
unless u want the azurite, which have double the main stat but no secondary, and are really strong slots for MT
LFR raids from legion are also min lvl 50

One thing to keep in mind is that even the old +3 main stat gems are better than SL gems, so even crafted blue / green BFA / SL rings can be an improvement over your standard gear. You can also optimize for your preferred secondary stats which you may not have optimal if your main gear prioritizes item level.

Also, keep in mind the consumables make a lot of difference, and it does matter which ones you use. For most of them, the BFA 8.2 ones are the best, but some are only marginally better (or not at all) than others from various expansions, and they can be very expensive.

There is a great guide on wowhead on this topic.
