Mage Tower, WoD rings & MoP cloaks

Greetings dear Blizzard.

For a some time now, ever since BfA came out, I was thinking about certain things, that in some part were reason for my backing away from further playing of WoW that started last Christmas. Have bought 1 month sub only for sake of reserving 3 names on Classic realm. But in all that time I had this in me, with me, as something that didn’t want to let go.

During Legion I had a mixed time play for various real life issues, that caused me to not be able to prepare my certain classes and their certain specs on time for Mage Tower challenge, and so I was not able to catch desired skins for those certain classes and their certain specs.

Since this aligns with something previous 2 xpacs had, am approaching it in a same way. Line broke up during MoP when it was decided for the first time how legendary cloaks once WoD pre-patch hits, will no longer be obtainable. Decision continued through WoD with legendary rings, and through Legion with Mage Tower challenges for artifact skins.

I said how line broke up. By that I mean how line started with Vanilla WoW legendaries (Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros & Thundefruy, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker), and continued through TBC, WotLK & Cata xpacs.

Decision for breaking that line came under excuse of wanting to make these items obtainable only during the current xpac (MoP=cloaks, WoD=rings, Legion=mage tower skins) and by so making them a part of unique experience of that xpac. That decision, vision/idea that guided it, sadly falls on same wrong tracks from which came idea for closing all future flying when WoD was current xpac.
Here is why on example of flying issue. If you wanted to never had flying in WoW there should have never existed flight paths system in a first place, because it has tickled desire to one day become experienced in a way how it has once TBC came out. Since however some of found members of Blizzard did express how flying in WoW was their desire in a first place, but managed to make it real in TBC and not before, it is clear how their starting period hold different vision/idea for this game, then the one we saw coming alive with removal of MoP legendary cloaks at the end of xpac, and reached its pinnacle of its value in flying debate in WoD.

You have not decided to implement this decision to earlier stages of WoW and its legendaries, and by so undermined any important weight to your reasoning for this vision/idea when it came out during MoP. I never saw it as valid, and neither I see it now as a valid reasoning for making this decision, as I never saw it for various other decisions, that brought more harm then benefit to any sort of gameplay style of various types, that WoW players likes to pursue.

I like to use in my private gameplay time those items in unique combination to marvel their effects and beauty of it just as I like to go to some map in unique combination of mog-title-pet-mount and I go through that map or on ground or on flying mount that matches combo of listed stuff. That is just one example of how players can use old stuff for finding fun in game. Another place can be found in Timewalk dungeons and raids for example where you can use those items…and list goes on…In my case Mage Tower artifact skin for feral spec completes the full circle of my long time fantasy. Spectral Tiger mount - Spectral Tiger cub - spectral cat look.

Story that was weaved through progress of obtaining legendary cloaks and rings is now a missing gap/hole for that xpac (MoP/WoD). Mage Tower artifact skin thanks to love putted in creation of looks of those skins even now in bizzare way outweigh quantity of quality of BfA.

If bringing back of legendary cloaks and rings alongside with their storylines, and Mage Tower challenges for unlocking artifact skins can bring smile, happiness, enjoyment for ppl such as me, and I am not alone in desire for this, then what true harm can be done to game itself with it ? I honestly do not see any harm in that.
I write all of this as a player who is having both cloaks and rings, and know enjoment of having them for what ever usage that brings me fun in game, and as such I wish this experience for others, who right now are not able to have it. I was against bringing artifacts into a game on a lvl of players usage of them as another weapons in a roll, because of their lore wise legacy. I deemed that they should be handled to us only in case if Legion is last xpac and to make grande conclusion to such legendary story and journey we all had with them when they became present in game in their own way (Corrupted Ashbringer in Vanilla, later purified in WotLK, or Doomhammer in hands of a Horde Warchief Thrall, as examples). However over time during Legion I had a change of heart for that when I saw their ultimate usage against powers that were in plunged sword of Sargeras and found that approach to them as very much acceptable. I hope that you dear Blizzard can also have your own change of heart on this matter as well.

Please dear Blizzard, consider this writing and honesty of motives in it, and do your very best to bring us those beloved tiny contents to us once again.

Kind regards dear Blizzard, Elunaria.

Blizzard have said that the legendaries and Mage Tower skins were only available for a limited time, after that they are permanently unobtainable, in Blizzard’s words that ”so that people can show off that they were around when it was relevant”.

Personally I agree to some extent to what Blizzard said, but mostly I disagree- and that is coming from someone who has the cloaks, rings and most Mage Tower skins. The legendary cloak should remain unobtainable because it’s something you can show off every day as transmog. But the legendary ring however can’t be showed off at all, so I don’t mind if it was made obtainable again. Neither do I mind if the Mage Tower skins are made obtainable, the scenario can restrict a player’s level to 110, ~240 ilvl and no azerite armor traits, so that players don’t blast their way in there.

For some reason Blizzard are fast to remove things from the game, but almost never do they readd things. I really hope they change their minds at some point.

I wouldn’t mind them bringing it back, even making it so that it’s still a challenge. I mean, one could argue Mage Tower was pretty easy at the end and was almost a participation trophy (for some classes/specs!).

Here comes my ambivalence though:I hated that I loved it so much. It consumed my casual soul so much that I farmed LFR relentlessly for ages to get some leggos and gear, leveled a druid I never played until then (as well as some other classes) etc. It almost cut me off of playing casually. I usually played what i wanted or even in old content. I know that this is a me problem, but still… Loved getting the skins, glad it’s over.

I kinda guess that’s what people would want more of, cus most people want to feel unique and have unique items that you can no longer obtain

I dont understand why blizzard spend ressources to develope one of the best weapon skins and challenges (magetower) just to remove them after some time…
They should better remove things that are still ingame and makes no sense (i.e. pathfinder grinding) then those good things they made

I don’t mind that the transmoggable rewards were removed from the game, but I don’t understand why they didn’t keep the questline(s) - for the lore behind them.

Legendaries has no place in this discussion because you’re comparing apples to oranges, if anything you need to compare the Mage Tower to Rhok’delar and Benediction quests and MoP - Dungeon Challenge Mode where it rewarded sets that are no longer obtainable.

The cloak and ring were exclusive to the MoP and Legion respectively and got removed probably due to exclusivity, when you get the ring it unlocks the monument in the Garrison.

Comparing legendaries in general that nothing about them was a challenge to get to rewards that in their time was a challenge to get is absurd.

If you want to experience the content again I’d understand but asking them to bring back the rewards just because “you honestly do not see any harm in that” is hilarious to say the least.

as someone who hold the cloak, ring and mage tower Tmogs, i have no problem with blizzard making them available again, the cloak especially since it gives quite an advantage during TW weeks and so affect game play.

as for the “i was there when it was relevant proof”, Titles (such as ‘hand of adal’ or ‘the immortal’) are all the proof you need. it’s totally cosmetic, and has no impact on gameplay.

The issue is people spent a lot of time getting this, especially people that got all of the skins, mostly collectors and Blizzard stated that some of these skins are exclusive so making these items available again would not only devalue them but Blizzard’s word would mean nothing.

I don’t mind it either way but I still think that many people would care.

What about Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal and Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian?

Black Qiraj Resonating Crystal is tied to event of opening Ahn’qiraj Gates that was created in such way that only one single player on entire realm could hit the gong for the first time on realm and as such got this reward (mount & title).
Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian is tied to relocation vanilla time raid into new xpac-continent-map and got in such way new purpose. However even THAT can be changed and brought back via bronze dragonflight and their time change spells in certain zones. So Eastern Plaguelands could get such feature alongside with respective quest chain, and with it, make once again old Naxx as a farming place for named staff. We still have 6 old xpacs legendaries obtainable with their quest lines (lore) still there.
So out of 4 vanilla legendaries, 2 have remained still obtainable.

I got my mage tower artfiact on my warrior and warrior only for all 3 specs.
I don’t even play my warrior anymore.

Wish I went for wearbear.
