Main hand + Off Hand or Staff?

Good afternoon all,

Sorry in advance if this question has been asked many times in the past, but I was left confused.

With the upcoming weekly reset and a new spark of shadowflame available for crafting, I was wondering what next piece I would craft.

I’ve been following the different guides available on the web up until one (focus on Mythic Raiding) and I’ve crafted the Primal Molten Spellblade as my first craft.

Now I’m getting confused as I’ve done the maths and found out that crafting the spellblade + codex of Isles (offhand) gives you the exact same stats as crafting the Illuminating Pillar of Isles (staff), despite costing you 1 extra spark.

What adds even more to my confusion is that when I sim this gear on QuestionablyEpic, for some reason, it says the main hand + off hand gives more hps than the staff, despite the amount of stats looking identical between the two options.

Anyone got a clear idea on what’s the best option, if there’s one ?

Many thanks for your help

What class are you talking about?
Go with main hand + off hand, its easyer to manage secondary stats if needed, also if you wield shield, its block chance which is pog.

I’m maining priest Holy (not sure why it’s displaying my paladin on my profile though).

Thanks for your feedback.

I also just learnt the staff actually costs 2 sparks to craft ! So in terms of costs it’s actually the same.
At this point I’m just wondering about how reliable QE website is - up until now, I always fully rely on it to determine my next gear to catch.

What content do you play? Assuming you are asking for PVE i’d say go with main and offhand, but check some top score players on raider io. I usually suggest main hand and off hand because you can choose secondary stats more freely. Example int/mast sword, int/haste off hand. You can either stack more haste by adjusting weapons or mastery, etc.
I hope I dont screw you with this hopefully somebody else can help here. But im pretty sure my advice is good.

The offhand is typically a smaller upgrade than other slots people had the option of upgrading early on.

Spellblade + crafted ring with socket + 441 offhand > spellblade + offhand + 441 non socket ring.

Also for DPS it was important to make two items early to get the new embellishment as soon as possible.

My crafts were, in order:

Spellblade
Chest (Shadowflame)
Ring
And tomorrow it’ll be a second ring, vault permitting

Are you sure ? Because the amount of intel on the offhand still surpass most of the other slots from what I can see. So logically it still seems to me like the next step for me.

Plus on another note, chest is tier set for me (holy worst set tier piece remains the gloves) and I already got socketed ring (which for some reason, one of the 2 doesn’t sim better than onyx amulet, probably because of its stats).

The comments regarding shadowflame were specifically related to DPS. Things are likely more relaxed now, especially for healers, but with items like sporecloak also in high demand there was reason enough for people to want 2 different embellishments from their first two crafts.

Now we have 4 crafts it’s way more flexible.
