Majorly bad lag but my internet is fine

Hi

Past few days on WoW I’ve encountered stupidly high World MS and Home MS. It just came up out the blue. I did a speed test and my internet speed is how it should be, yet I get major lag spikes and I have no idea why. I’ve reset the router and everything and it’s still causing issues.

been there for a while now and blizzard dont do anything about it.

Transfer speed has nothing to do with latency. Internet over messenger pigeons is potentially fast but has terrible latency.

Personally I haven’t issues with latency to WoW or Blizzard servers in general.

Out of nowhere, I encounter stupidly high World + Home MS, yet my internet seems to be running fine. I can’t play the game anymore as it’s very unplayable.

Been there (still kind of am, but the increase has stabilized over time), done that.

As it’s only affecting fractions of players on each region, you’ll be told that the problem is with your ISP, go through a lengthy process where your ISP will prove to you it’s not on them (or change ISPs altogether, only to still run into the same issues) then when your ISP is eradicated as an potential painpoint, MVPs and/or Blizzard shills will tell you that the problem is inbetween Blizzard and the ISP, you maybe try to figure out where the problem is or who’s responsible (you will once again be told that anyone but Blizzard is responsible) then, to contact/troubleshoot/get it looked at there, only to find the supposed source, only to be told or figure out that actually, it’s Blizzard’s or your ISP’s issue to fix by them too.

In other words. Nobody is at fault, everybody points fingers and the reality becomes that you won’t see a fix other than “wait it out and see if it gets better” (= Unsubscribe, for your own sake), because it’s a Blizzard issue and so long as it’s not a widespread problem that affects a majority of the consumers, they will rest on the laurels of getting to say that it’s not their issue to deal with and they don’t troubleshoot connection issues anymore (unless it’s in their best financial interest to do so).

Good luck.

You can have 1 gbps speed and still lag with latency .it has nothing to do with speed .
It depends what route your internet traffic is taking .
Your isp could be using one route one day but could start using another route next day

For me it is only wow. Ff14 no lag

yes it can happen . as wow servers seems to be based in netherland while ffxiv servers are in germany .i have similar issue as you and the only solution that worked for me was to pay for a vpn .

WoW has been having dogsh*t ISPs servicing their nodes sicne the start of this year. I made a thread about it a few months back:

And here’s the proof that it IS in fact on Blizzard’s end, not ours:

The node at which the packets are being lost is highlighted.
