Greeting forums.

I’m asking myself about how to make fishing great again.

Today if you fish, you don’t seek to seek school of fish, you can just fish everywhere knowing you gonna get the same rewards ( sea / river and region Zandalar / Kultiras) and that didn’t motivate you to be like " oh look here if i fish i will get something i don’t get somewhere else !"

Ok you gonna be like " You want to fish the titanic for Shadowland ? ".
You are half right : for me the mount you could fish is not that much attractive exept for the achievement.

Now it’s time to explain myself why i do this topic :
In Legion we could see each region that got NPC that you could be friend, learning toy that given a little fun to change the bobber ( see videos below ) or other thing.

In Warlord of Draenor ( i maked warlord during BFA, so i will speak WoD in BFA ) i farmed the building fish level 3 , and to get it you were asked to fish in school of fish in each region. And that was great because it given you a reason seeking those.

Also before , fishing skill were meaningfull, if you were adding bauble to get +10 in fishing you felt the difference and you were pretty happy of it.
It motivate you to get all the gadget too like the nat paggle drinking hat

Or you can seek out the chair that was pretty fun and in the immersion .

Also to know in Warlord to know in your garrisson you got a chance that make spawn a murloc at low chance and again a low chance to drop a TGC mount make you want to fish a lot to get just the murloc and get the ultra low chance to get the TGC.

I was thinking about all of this that could be cool. So what i think it can make it great again for fishing in Shadowland will be like :

  • Toy more in front ( example : redbull can you can drink that give you wing in Kyrian area etc… New idea that make really fun while you can fish alone or with friend ( for RP like “hey let’s drink a soda can :tropical_drink: !” ))

  • Mount : Usually inaccessible like in WoD or Something extremly rare you could sells ( like the Great sea rare but with the rarity of the TGC mount of Warlord).

  • Fishing school where unique fish or something extra can be obtainable in it , and not obtainable in “normal” water.

  • Make fishing skills more sense and additionnal fishing skill more attractive ( can make addition to thing to sell in Auction House too why not

Well guys, What for you will make Fishing interresting for you in Shadowland ? What’s your wish list :fishing_pole_and_fish:?

Edit : Fishing is one of my favorite activity when i wait for queue Arena / Battleground / Mythic + :smile:

Edit 2 : And i loved fishing in classic since i was hunter and feeding my pet fish was a cool stuff, but today we don’t mind anymore :man_shrugging:

They should make it into a minigame like that in FF14. Interacting with a bobbing lure is just boring. Heck, do it for all crafts. :stuck_out_tongue:

Honestly, most of the world feels too fast for me. The pace of the game is such that I feel compelled to run through it. back in classic, I feel like I spent a lot more time in each area. If I make a conscious effort, I will stop and look around, but generally, there is not much useful in doing that… so I only do it rarely.
I was wondering why. well cooking and eating is not done any more. it is completely unnecessary. weapon training is not done. there is no need to stay in an area longer than it takes to pass whatever quests you are doing. there is no point in exploration. everything is marked on your map, so if you see nothing on your minimap, there is nothing of use and you just carry on. there is no purpose to look at the area or search around. the game is dumbed down and streamlined so it’s just a series of travelling from dot to dot. This is what most players want these days, so blizzard won’t change it. people just want the world quests that they can fly between and grind and do their ‘daily work’. nobody wants any challenge, or anything interesting. they don’t want weapon skills, professions etc. if the profession doesn’t give them flasks for raids, or another mount, etc. then it is trash.

what can make fishing more fun again? the answer is to play another game. This game is continually dumbed down and made into a taxi ride for people to do their daily job/ world quests. I won’t be surprised if Fishing is gone in a couple of expansions.
First aid is already gone completely. The rest will follow.

The final result is a game that looks more like virtua-cop than a MMORPG.

First step to make fishing, cooking and archaeology fun is to turn them into main profession. There should be no semi-forcing players to do this.

Personally I would turn cooking into mayor profession with fishing being gathering profession and it would already become for me more interesting. Add some weapons, pets, mounts or toys and it would be great.

Archeology/Fishing could get random boxes with stuff inside~ maybe even just gold like slicing in SWTOR :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

(I am happy about merge of first aid with tailoring! More brave decisions like that!)

Not true I still fish and cook for food on my characters, it’s also the cheapest way to get vision food.

I have fished since I started to play, for food, for pets, for achievements etc. The thing I miss most were the crates, remember when you could come across pools with crates in them? Fish there and open the crates which generally gave you random mats. Even if I was on my way to do something else, I would always stop and fish such pools as the mats could be sold. It’s like the X-mas prezzies in your capital city, it’s always nice to open something and hope that you get a nice reward. I would love to see that return, random pools with crates that offered rewards :smiley:

Fishing in the Shadowlands?
Poor fish…

Bob the Fish is hauled out of the water in Azeroth, killed and eaten.
Then Bob the Fish’s soul goes to the Shadowlands where the same damn thing happens.

Legion legendary fishing rod was fun, too bad it not even lasted one full expansion.

Fishing already has that, I’ve fished up an epic item from a junkbox acquired from fishing.

As for making them main profs ? NO !, let them remain as a separate game system from the crafting profs.

Id love for more mogs and toys from fishing. I did the bfa secret fishing achievement (which btw requires a ton of fishing in specific areas) and the compressed ocean is my new favourite toy. I get so many fishing achievements for people.

Thatfishing chair tho, i saw it on black market ages ago on auction for 250k and it still had long time left. So id love more special fishing only rewards specifically known fir fishing.

After doing bfa secret fishing i want to go do legion fishing for the crazy artifact rod

And those crates could be mats from all expansions! and could get alot of new items/cosmetics from proffesions that require mats otuside just current expac mats. Like some from northrend,some from outland other from brokenshore.

There’s something i would like to see it back too : Shipwreck.

It’s for me a part that i liked , for example in cataclysm, when you were fishing in shipwreck you got random crafting reagent you could sell in Auction House. Or i remember back in Stranglethorn valley if you were twinking low level you were farming those shipwreck just to get a buff +15 stamina etc.

I think they can be able to do something interresting with Fishschool and Shipwrecks :smile:

My eyes are hurt when i have to watch that bobber without blinking, even enlarged one, fishing needs some love in terms of ui and rewards and i would chill with it :slight_smile:

Do you play with in game sound? If you do turn it up slightly, you can hear the splash when the bobber bobs, wow that sounds odd lol. But yeah means you don’t have to stare at the bobber :smiley:
