At level 10 right now:
- Completing a normal dungeon rewards 8500 XP. (100% success rate)
- Winning a random battleground rewards 2150 XP. (50% success rate)
Additional data:
- You get enough XP to gain an entire level while you do the dungeon itself, by killing monsters, bosses, and sometimes doing dungeon quests.
- Meanwhile, you gain about 2% of your XP bar by participating in the battleground and killing players for 15 minutes.
- You gain no reward if you lose the battleground. You’ve effectively wasted your time despite “completing” the activity.
I’m not asking for PvP to be the fastest way to level up your character.
But come on. It wouldn’t hurt anyone to increase these numbers a bit.
2150 XP with a 50% winrate is effectively 1075 XP for partaking in a 15 minute brawl where you compete against other players. These numbers are straight up pathetic.
Please make it something like:
- 6500 XP for participating in the battleground.
- 2000 additional XP for winning the battleground.
= 8500 XP for winning the battleground, the same as completing a normal dungeon.
Don’t worry: dungeons would still be faster, and you would still gain a full level while killing monsters and bosses vs. 0 for killing players.
Surely that’s not an unreasonable request?

Completely agreed. I always enjoy the leveling battlegrounds, I don’t even play them to level up, but that would be a nice bonus and perhaps help with the queue times.

Completely agree with your takes here.
I think the reason they don’t want to do that is because they want you to grind honor at the max level. Probably related to one of their KPIs (such as amount of BGs played perhaps) they use in their shiny shareholder reports.
This is actually one of the reason I have all classes available at max level in Guild Wars 2. You farm gold, level up quite easily while doing instanced PvP.
I’m not even sure that’s true, because they introduced these QoL account bound consumables that you can send your alts. You can “transfer honor” from one character to the other basically, so that’s a non-issue.
On targets around your level or higher. Way lower than 8000 though. Maybe 2k, but probably less. Too much XP on that makes it basically the most encouraged way to level.
That becomes available quite later into the patch.
It’s available right now.
Thats because its season 4.
No, it’s a new item that was introduced in season 3, and was also available at the start of season 3: https://www.icy-veins.com/forums/topic/75076-send-honor-to-alts-in-dragonflight-season-3/
Also, Honor does not reset at the start of a new season, so you can buy a full set of Honor Gear on all your characters day 1 of a new season by saving it.
So yes, I don’t think Blizzard cares about us gaining Honor during leveling. Even if they do, I think we’re all fine with leveling BGs no longer rewarding Honor as long as they give half-decent XP instead.
I am not certain if this item is always going to available at the begining of each expansion and patch, if yes, thats a positive bonus to the game.
But, it doesn’t provide what OP believes would be a good levelling option for people that prefer PvP over PvE. You would do PvP, level your character at the same time, and already have your honor available to purchase honor gear at max level.
I presume it has something to do with turnaround time. Dungeon vs PvP.
That’s not to say it’s not something that needs looking at but a dungeon queue can take some time as a dps.
Have you ever tried to queue for a battleground while leveling?
Most of the time I close the game after an hour in queue, without ever entering a single one.
The rewards for them are so small that nobody bothers queuing at all.
Not in years, but I don’t like PvP. It’s just a bunch of people stomping usually and very unfun. Seemed a complete waste of time.
To each their own. In any case, I’m sure you don’t oppose the option for those who do enjoy it.

in shadowlands bg exping was way to go i just exp 8 alts like noting but in dragonflight there is way too long quelle times bc no ppl and pvp lvls scale are bugged or something bc i was oneshooted so i did not even want trying more
At no point have I opposed players taking part in PvP, what I actually said was
You went on to say the queue is long, so it’s clearly not a turnaround issue, or not recently anyway.
I don’t PvP but I did contemplate making an alt to level exclusively in PvP until I found out it wasn’t viable. So I fully support this being changed so that it can be a viable leveling path if someone chooses it as one.
My one question would be about gear. You’re not rewarded, afaik, for battlegrounds etc. So, unless I am wrong, this would also need to be part of the change or you just wouldn’t be able to keep up or be in very low ilvl gear at max level.

You are, actually.
You get a gear box after a battleground victory, which contains one item with a slightly lower ilvl than what you’d get in a normal dungeon but more stacked with versatility.
