So, i liked how PVP was solved in Legion. Everybody could PVP just item lvl mattered. NO pvp no PVE items and i like it, you could be PVE player and jump into PVP when ever you wanted. This is way to realive PVP. Donta care for elitisam of PVP players “we wont pvp vendor qq more“. I just want more ppl to play PVP, more ppl better competition. Let PVE ers jump in PVP, dont make them to spend too much time to get items. Mythic gear should be equivalent of best PVP set.
Legion was more played because it was completely new in pvp and that’s why.
Trust me legion pvp was everything but fun. Those ret paladins with auto bubble once their HP goes under 20% or mages with triple the blinks they have right now.
Assa rogues that put 1000 poisons on you and just run around you while you die slowly in agonizing death.
It’s just pvp was “redone” . No gear just farming honor ( forgot to mention the honor level resets at the first season . This was NOT fun at all since you lost all your pvp talents and they were more than now and not only 3 ).
If anything Legion pvp was kinda okay but nothing cool.
PvE players had advantage since it was % of your ilvl and pvp gear was kinda low while you could farm m+15 and get tons of ilvl.
It was a fairy tail on a letter.
paladins are OP since Vanila
mage has 1 displacement and 2 shimmers
the difference is the range, the duration of displacement, and the cooldown of shimmer were all unnerfed
now shimmer has 27seconds or smth, back then it had 15
displacement lasted alot longer, and its range was more than double, making mage decide w/e he wants to use it or save it
on retail right now, u have a 20 yard range, and 8 seconds to use it, so sometimes u have to use it regardless, also u cannot have displacement and 2x blinks, but we do have alter time, so its kinda the same amount of tools, just cooldown and range were different
but other classes didn’t have as much mobility to keep up, so it might have felt ahead of its time, or just flat out op
specially with the legendary chest that every blink gave u a 30% hp shield
still, i found legion pvp more balanced and “fair” than current pvp anyway, and the issues he is aying about the gearing system also true, legion i had 0 pvp gear, i just played the game, quested, raided, and used w/e i had on me and it worked without me being a top 0.1% raider.
Yes, to bo honest i dont talk about every class. I think that idea, concept of item lvl (instead of special pve or pvp items) being most important is ok, and will bring more ppl to PVP
I can’t tell you how much I agree with how well Legion handled PvP gearing.
If I remember correctly, you had a fixed amount of stats and gained 1% of your total stats for every 10 item levels on your actual gear. That meant that even if you outgeared someone by 100 item levels, it was still a pretty fair fight.
In my opinion, the Legion PvP templates were the best PvP gearing system we ever had, and I really hate that Blizzard didn’t continue to iterate on it (e.g. by giving players the possibility to choose which secondary stats they wanted instead of using predetermined values).
Like Raspad and Magegød said, you could just jump into PvP without having to spend endless amounts of time gearing for it. No time-gated Conquest points, no horrible catch-up if you joined late in the season—just PvP on as many characters as you wanted.
It was also much better in the open world. Because what am I supposed to do with my current crappy Champion-level Conquest gear when I already have a full set of Mythic gear?
Sure, PvE players had an advantage since they had access to higher item-level gear, but:
a) it didn’t really matter (since it was only a minor stat gain),
b) more or less everyone now has access to Mythic gear anyway, and
c) if giving PvE players an incentive to try PvP by letting them use their PvE gear gets more people into the bracket, then so be it.
Two stories on why I also think templates should make a return:
- My healer and I started late in the season (because why would we PvP when everything is time-gated, rating gains are capped, and every second game is against multi Rank 1 Gladiators because the MMR is weird, etc.?).
We played to around 2300 rating to get all the rewards, and it was a horrible experience. Every game felt like an uphill battle against gear. And the fastest way to get better gear? Beat players who already have more gear than you. Because without winning, you don’t get enough Conquest points, which are the only reliable way to upgrade your gear.
In the end, we reached our target rating long before we had a full gear set, which also felt kind of sad.
Every now and then we queued into some poor team that had just started and had even less gear than we did. And we just… stomped them. I didn’t need to outplay them—I just dealt more damage. That felt horrible as well. I don’t think you learn anything or improve when the reason you’re losing is simply that your opponent’s abilities hit twice as hard as yours.
I’d love to farm some of the Elite sets on my alts, but farming the required gear really puts me off, and I just don’t think it’s worth my time. And if I actually had the motivation to collect those rewards on, let’s say, two more characters, that would effectively mean two additional active players in the PvP bracket. - I’m in a guild where the general attitude is, “PvP is the worst, and I’m not good at it anyway.” We don’t have many PvP players, but we tried to get more guild members interested. And those who actually gave it a try ended up enjoying it.
At one point, we came up with the idea of organizing a few Battleground Blitz wargames within the guild, but we couldn’t make it work. Why? Because we had no practical way to get everyone to roughly the same gear level.
If you have an idea how to do that without asking more than ten die-hard PvE players to farm over 15,000 Honor or spend a ton of gold on useless PvP greens, please let me know.
I genuinely think we’d have quite a few more beginners playing PvP if the barrier to entry wasn’t so high.
TL;DR: BRING BACK LEGION PVP TEMPLATES (and improve them)! That system was really good!
P.S. I also agree that Legion PvP as a whole was far from perfect. Prestige levels were horrible, open-world PvP was as unbalanced as it could be, yada yada.
PVE players will join PVP when PVP feels more la PVE
That means no more one shotting and no more being CC ed to death and not going from 100% Hp to 0 in a 3 seccond stun.
So bottom line ? Don’t expect PVE players in PVP ![]()
tbh i don’t know if templates are good or bad anymore, i think its more about how much tuning and design issues are being solved and sorted, pvp design in modern pvp is extremely toxic, there are too many interrupts and crowd controls flying left and right, not being able to play is the first most frustrating thing
second is probably feeling irrilevant, curreent dmg/hpbar and healing seems to have 0 thoughts into it in blitz/bg/duel/wpvp
and lastly, is like someone said above, how much gear aoptimizations are in the game, in legion i legit don’t even know what i was wearing and i had a blast playing wpvp… the instanced templetaes were a bit weird and favoured certain classes tho
That’s huge mobility mage got there.
You really think mage’s mobility is too low? That’s so wrong of you to say.
Ask anyone here, everyone wants mage to not have any blinks or mobility at all.
