Make SoD runes only swappable in major cities

In the new Platinum WoW video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV2ssdfd2KM) you can see a guy engrave his runes out in the open world (at 0:52). This makes me fear that there will be a rune swapping meta in PvP, where people reset fights and swap runes according to the situation or just swap runes to directly counter their opponent whenever they can, which is equivalent to swapping talents on the fly considering just how big of an impact on your build some of the runes are going to make. It also affects PvE a whole lot, especially now that mages can heal, so one of the best DPS classes can now swap to healer and doesn’t even have to bring healing power gear to compliment that build? All this goes against the Classic philosophy of playing your class as a whole and not just your spec and needs to be changed to only be doable at your class trainer.

When a mage heals he gets a big debuf limiting fire and frost damage for quite a while. Channeling arcane missiles in PvP isn’t the best.

The spells from runes can’t be downranked so they will be mana costly as well. And very likely a dedicated set of gear will be needed for a mage to function as a healer.

This isn’t Classic, it’s a crazy seasonal server. The same as SoM was competitive raiding which wasn’t anywhere near the spirit of vanilla.

People will go Sweatlord if they really want to. Blizzard should keep an eye on this but still, if people swap gear out of combat for different runes then why not? People will roll bis PvP class, pick BiS runes, BiS build, BiS gear…

If your worry is PvP then they could put your rune swap on a 1min/2min CD or maybe less just to prevent degenerate behavior in PvP.

No need to push it to major cities exclusively, especially on PvE realms

Night Elves OP shadowmelt would be used for something more than mana drinking?

And that’s bad because? I like being able to switch my stuff.

Then play retail. This is supposed to be for Classic players, not retail players. This is exactly the same problem as when the original game was destroyed by expansions. I do want new content, but I want it to make sense in the context of vanilla, not for it to be just another retail and I think a lot of people would agree with me.

System is even worse than I thought it would be. You can straight up store multiple gear sets and swap after resetting the fight. So… the opposite of the weight that the talents are supposed to carry in vanilla, but with x10 the amount of power. The runes themselves and how you find them are fantastic, but swapping them outside of major cities (or class trainers) absolutely needs to go, least a very unhealthy meta will develop.

Absolutely not, this system is integral to SoD.

That’s the exact oposite of what you are asking for. You want people to be bound as much as possible to their spec instead of playing their class as a flexible whole

Then swap your gear to counter the opponent.

Says who?

Vanilla wasn’t destroyed by dual talent lol. Nobody likes to be forced into one spec when there are 2 game modes, pve and pvp, and even in pve you would want 2 talents usually.

It’s in the name Classic. Wrath/TWW is that way

As I said - an extremely unhealthy meta.

Perhaps I worded it poorly. In vanilla you commit. You don’t just swap around your talents all flexible, gaining whole new abilities on the fly. At most you can swap around some gear and engineering trinkets, which are niche. Now you can gain a whole new set of abilities after using Feign Death. Not okay.

What I meant by “playing your class, not your spec” is that as a paladin for example, you will have mostly the same spells no matter what spec you play, but obviously if you spec holy you will heal much better and have… consecration and holy shock. Great. You’re a paladin who specializes in healing and who gains a few new spells at most. Now in SoD you can bubble and swap your entire spell layout. Fighting a warlock? Yeah just bubble, grab that tremor totem rune and win. And it’s only going to get worse with more rune slots.

It’s an absolutely atrocious system and if you don’t get this somehow then I really don’t know what else to tell you.

I do not agree. And I think you’re coming from a DPS class with a PVP spec don’t forget about all the other classes that would benifit from changing runes without having to go all the way back to a major city. What’s the point in that anyway? It’s just inconvenience.

And it makes playing a healer in raids really suck when you want to farm and you have to change all of your talents at a cost you have to absorb before you even start farming.

maybe let the indie company sort out que times, been waiting over 3 hours just to login give feedback when we all get what we pay for.

No healer enjoys having to solo level/farm in Healer spec because going back to DPS would break the bank. Vanilla has a bunch of dumb gold sinks that were thankfully removed as the game evolved into something better. It’s a game not a second job.

I like swapping runes on the Go, but if it starts happening during an active pvp encounter things will get rough

I’ve got bad news chief.

Not only PvP…
Prot paladin Rebuke competes with Avenger’s Wrath. So you can either pull or interrupt.
I absolutely see the expectations of swapping the rune per dungeon pack.

Similarly, Lifebloom and Living Seed. Currently it’s a trivial choice, but I can see that resto will be expected to dps but on boss fights, swap to a healing touch build.

Granted, in some games where you can swap your build anytime out of combat.

I gotta be honest, at this point I don’t expect my teammates to tie their own shoelaces.

Let’s fix issues when they start actually becoming widespread.

Fudging everyone over, just because a select few degens may do rune twisting or whatever they will call it - is not a good thing to do.
