It’s really obnoxious that every time there’s an antorus group 75% of the people can’t come to summon cause they’re on alts that haven’t bothered to unlock it yet. Please make it account wide.
I believe you gotta unlock broken shore first (with skip yeah it’s fast) and then you gotta do that whole RP quest in exodar that takes a while. That plus the fact players run around like headless chickens trying to find it if they want to unlock it or simply aren’t able to do the quest cause they’re in a raid group.
TL;DR: it’s a hassle, it’s annoying and most people don’t bother to do it on alts before joining raids
This game got so muddled with such stuff from one expansion to another, its beyond belief. They may as well push the accountwide button for everything by this point cauz the 2% of it that has any potential of breaking something somehow wont even come close to how messed up it is in its current state.
I genuinely belive that all these old story quests that are required to unlock some of the content make for an abysmal new player experience.
I mean most of us know that you have to unlock argus and know how you do it (it’s still a hassle).
But just imagine being in the shoes of someone that plays the game for the first time. There’s a ton of weird systems that made sense at the time, but that are just insanely confusing when joining late.
There was a person in the newcomer chat recently, wondering why they can’t fly after they bought flying. Because why wouldn’t they? They bought the skill that allows them to use flying mounts. What they don’t know however is that, this doesn’t apply to the BFA zones.
TL;DR: There’s way too many systems that long time players grew accustom to, that are just super confusing to new players.
tbh they should just unlock everything right away account wide and have all the quests left in place so if someone really wants they can do those quests.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with doing it once, would be nice to experience the story as a new player. But once is enough (Balance of Power should be account wide too as should legacy raid skips)
The problem I have with that is that it’s so incredible unclear what you have to do. People shouldn’t have to spend half an hour searching on google and wowhead to find out how to get to Argus.
Especially with zones I think they should just be accessible without unlocking anything. Story is nice and all if you want it, but it shouldn’t be a requirement to sit through all that.
I agree, grinds should never be required on alts.
grinds are busy work to give a main something to do. They are enough work for someone playing only one character to have content for a long time. But they should not be needed on alts.
By grinds I mean:
Rep farm.
Currncy farm.
Long questlines / scenarios where no skips are available.
Why should a new player just jump straight into Argus though? It should be done once (as most things should in game but we are not there yet with Blizzard.)
I get running the raid is problematic but I do feel everyone should do it once.
It is 5 years a go so maybe I cannot recall properly but the story was pretty linear in Legion (unless they have dropped bits and made it disjointed.)
Just my opinion though, I appreciate there are others.
I’m not that much into WoWs story to begin with. But doing old story is even worse, since it’s so trivial. In 95% of cases you don’t do it at the appropriate level, so you just oneshot everything and it turns into a walk from point A to B just for some dialog and the occasional cutscene.
I just don’t really see a downside to letting people skip it if they’re not interested in the story from several years ago.
As I said not saying I am correct and there are of course differing views on things like this. I started playing in Legion (on its release) and part of my learning of wow was going back and doing old stuff, I did Pathfinder WoD for example and got to appreciate WoD and understand what it could have been (Questing in WoD was great) .
In my opinion if we let new players just unlock everything legacy I feel they are missing out.
The problem I usually see with WoWs storyline is that it becomes super disjointed if you do it late.
Back in legion it was pretty linear. You did the 7.0 story. The did the 7.1 story as that came out and so on.
But they usually lift requirements later. So maybe during 9.1 it was required to do questlines A and B first to unlock C, and C was required to do D, that requirement was later changed to make it easier for people to catch up.
Now when someone goes back there several years later you’re presented with questlines A, B, C and D at once and without guides or some help it’s often really hard to figure out which ones you have to complete for what you’re trying to do.
This doesn’t just apply to legion, but to all the more recent expansions.
I’ve been around long enough to know how I find the info I need on Wowhead or googling, but I still think it’s incredible frustrating for less experienced players.
