hey i play mostly pve so this is my pov on pve. ive read a couple of subrogue topics here on EU forums and US forums although i do not have alpha i would like to share some of my thoughts on SubRogue. i dearly hope blizz tries to fix sub. i dont mean to be rude but i am so glad BFA is over soon and we get to see a bit of light in SL, hopefully.
energy wise:
currently sub at the moment suffers heavily from energy starvation if u play talents like nightstalker, deeper strategem, dark shadow, secret technique(meh).
i know i have to pool energy before going into burst window but even then the regen is too slow.
and simply not enough for you to go through two shadowdance charges without being starved. you are forced into choosing energy talents that increases energy or reduces costs of said abilities, but keep in mind doing that you lose so much dps imo its not even worth it.
i just want the spec to be viable and more importantly FUN. it was okey-ish before they removed shurken combo in Uldir, after that haha well i dont know what to say other than we lost so much. our only niche we had was funneling our AoE into single target. that is gone. we lost so much from Legion. master of subtlety damage buff, Dfa combo gone.
also i would like to point out, Envenom is hitting harder than Eviscerate. our mastery should not make this possible and for that to be true we are looking at 3 night vengeance traits and ontop of that you have to crit :). again more bandages. Shadowlands
either way looking at the alpha builds i assume they are looking at some elements to subtlety rogue. having a baseline aoe finisher finaly. slice n dice now giving energy through another passive energetic recovery sounds really good. nightblade replaced by repture also good.
now my hopes are that they rework the entirety of the last talent row.
Master of shadows - really needs to be baseline.
Mastery of subtlety(+10% damage for 6 seconds after stealth) - needs to be reintroduced so that vanish can be a dps cooldown again not just a 2 minute shadowstrike.
Secret techniquec- damage needs to be buffed since there will be a target cap anways.
shuriken tornado - same damage as shuriken storm the only benefit is that it costs 60 energy and 4x shurken storm is 140 energy. so basicaly more energy talents. combopoint generation is not a problem in multitarget so personaly never pick this. much rather have DFA back over this.
knowing Blizzard i doubt they will touch this row though.
imagine if we had bleed mechanic from wod, multistrikes makes bleed tick faster. i want more mechanics for all specs not just rogues.
side note if a boss parries your eviscerate, you lose energy and combopoints.
on outlaw/sin if a boss parries your Dispatch/Envenom, you only lose energy…
is there an explanation behind, like is this intended if so why only for

i agree with you.
but there’s one thing that’s wrong:
Energetic Recovery is passive from WoD and it’s not in our spell book → it’s not working… but it’s still in database (WOWHead / in game) i would love to see Shadow Techniques being replaced by Energetic Recovery and bring back premeditation for pvp to pre-activate SnD like it was in WoD.
(i hate Shadow Techniques so much…that random CP popping out is just terrible and it gives low amount of energy due to low amount of procs)
There’s one thing i’m confused about… Blizz wrote in their official class change post this: Shadow Dance gains the power of Dark Shadow (previously a Talent) to increase all damage active. but Dark Shadow is still in talents… and baked into SD ( nerfed version 15% dmg buff) in SL alfa
Secret Techniques - they should delete it imo, because we already have baseline AoE Finisher → Shadow Vault. or just rework it to empower (+50% dmg) Shadow Vault every 30sec. (one stack).
Shadow Blades is kinda weird too… 3min. CD and it just solves slow CP generation for 20sec…
Echoing Reprimand - (covenant ability) is super bad with Shadow Techniques and Shadow Blades… it just does not make sence…
and why the heck we don’t have mobility talent row… i would love to have Burst of Speed (WoD movent ability) (even nerfed version)… instead of 2 charges of Shadow Step (for BGs / open world / farming).
hey thanks for the response. i just assumed slice and dice is working because in the shadowlands talent calculater, class abilities tab it is shown as level 10 passive.
master of subtlety is only shown if you hover over shadow dance. since its not in its own bracket i guess we can forget about that.
agreed shadow techniques being replaced by Energetic recovery is a step in the right direction and could solve the energy issue.
about the shadow dance gains the power of dark shadow. since the removal of nightblade(+15% damage buff on target) i guess they removed it and baked it in shadowdance. but then dark shadow only increases shadow dance damage by an additional 15% so this is a nerf i believe. currently in retail its listed 25% and nightblade is 15% = 40%. dark shadow + dance is only 30%. it is a bit of confusing when they say we get power of dark shadow but in reality the talent is still there.
shadow blades on the global cooldown feels bad and underwhelming. i hope they can atleast reduce the cooldown down to 2 minutes to make it competetive against vendetta on Sin side.
shadow vault animation cant go live the way it is atm period.
about the covenant abilities in theory i really like the idea of echoing reprimand. but its going to be hard to match the cp in shadow dance with random procs of shadow techniques.
