I always played assassination on my rogue but recently I have been tempted to try out subtelty. Would you recommend gearing that rogue or doing an alt ? It would make sense to keep going on that rogue since this toon is maxed out with all the busy work before endgame done but with things like stats, legendaries, and covenant it feels like gimping my progress on both specs to not dedicate a char to it.
With your current gear only at honor gear levels. Just use that char. Even this late in season you can nearly buy 2 full gear sets. Buy the rings/neck and chest haste gear and your set.
If it’s PvP your talking. You can use MA for both sub and Assa.
Specially if you play venthyr. (Which is great for assa pve too)
Necro with doom blades does tons of constant pressure. Venthyr with MA does massive burst with vanish offensively.
But you are worgen so you lose meld. (NE are amazing for rogues due to free vanish)
2 chars are good if you want two covenants. But I’d stick to one at 197 gear levels. Saves time.
Hey Gavodan. First of all your questions depends on what content you want to pursue. Having an alt is fun and I would highly recommend having one. Perhaps you can try a different type of DPS or an entirely new role all together. If you play with friends or in a guild it can be good to alternate between different roles.
Regarding rogue in PVE:
With the buffs that are incomming for sub rogues they are looking to be even more viable in mythic+, primarily because of the AOE buffs and by the looks of it, sub rogue single target will be slightly better as well. This means that sub rogue might move from being bottom DPS in raids to the lower middle, but it is yet hard to know. Personally, I am looking forward to pushing keys in 9.1, because I believe sub rogue will be performing much better.
On the other hand, assa rogues are performing very well in raids at the moment and if you like raiding I would continue to put effort into that specc.
The problem with alternating between sub rogue and assa is that the stat priority is extremely different. On the other hand, the stat priority for outlaw is much more similar to assa and the only thing you need to replace are the weapons. This is very unfortunate in my opinion, because sub shares the daggers with assa and I would love to play assa myself. In mythic+ haste is absolutely garbage for sub rogue in comparison to mastery or crit.
Lastly, by the looks of it, Finality will remain the best in slot legendary for sub rogue for mythic+ and to a large extent for raiding. Akaari’s soul fragment is an option, if you want to mid-max your DPS on certain raid boss fights and it may even have some potential in PvP now with the MA nerf.
The sub buff on ST is fairly large, it puts sub equal or ahead of assa in preliminary sims. Also the new venthyr legendary Obedience is looking to be really good in both m+ and raiding. It’s for sure the best ST legendary at least.
As somebody previously mentioned, this is not good enough for sub to be competitive in raids. It would mean that if Assassination would do the same ST it would be the go-to specc, because it would outshine sub as soon as there is any cleave.
I doubt anything will be better than Korayn (night fae) and Finality for mythic+
However, for ST raid bosses you might be right.
