well on a semi related note: anyone had any luck messaging a GM and asking them to finish an elite set for you? i have shoulders gloves and belt of tyrannical gladiator elite but cant finish it now for like 12 years 
Nah, don’t think it’s possible, since you need conquest to buy the pieces. I mean you can try, but I doubt it. I have the warlock Prideful Elite and some weapons, would love to get the other weapons as well, but I don’t think they can help with that.
I looked into it a bit more - apparently the above set was obtainable without rating. you just needed 27,000 conquest earned in Season 13.

Hmm that sounds wierd to me, if I remember correctly I went and got the whole set after hitting 2k (had the conquest for it way before I hit 2k), meaning it was a requirement. That being said, I might be wrong, was a long time ago.

MoP ones were weird.
MoP S1 was same system as Cataclysm I believe. It was either 2,000 or 2,200 rating then you bought it off a vendor piece by piece.
MoP S2 (S13, my one) was welfare, just farm 25,000 conquest and you get it.
MoP S3 and S4 were IIRC 2,000 rating + 25,000 conquest.
This system carried into WoD.
WoD S1 was 2,000 rating + 25,000 conquest.

After the season 1 and 2 of DF, seeing that screenshot, makes me miss WoD, believe it or not.
this was “slowed and crowed” hunter era lol. frozen ammo slowing you from auto attacks, murder of crows doing half your hp, 20 second cooldown ice trap, etc. i was in blue gear and randomly get 2k rating in an afternoon just trapping on cd while doing unhealable damage. probably the most disgusting spec i’ve played besides 10.0.7 ret.
So I started pvp in s2 and have the elite set of around 5 classes now. It was funny to collect them, and it would take the exclusiveness away, if they were easy to farm after. BUT: I think during WoW: Midnight, when a lot of time passed, and nobody can remember which recolour was from pvp, then I think people should be able to buy it for 200 marks of honor, so they just buy the one they like a lot.
as time passes players quit or stop playing their old pvp characters and those sets become more prestigious and alluring, not forgotten. no one sees this set and goes, ah thats that one set for 12 honour tokens. they see it and go “holy jesus, where is that from? ive never even seen it before.”
and the same can be said for elite recolours. there is nothing in the game that looks like this in terms of colour:
everyone and their mum knows which of these is the elite set, and they released 13 years ago:
paladins need to have lions on their set and gold and blue, none of those have so they are not good. need lions and gold and blue
