Can we clear this UP? Or if anyone can help? Cuz I’ve had some really, really just annoying OOC whispers about trying to RP a Male Nelf Watcher/warden.
AFAIK:
There are instances of males being in the watcher/warden and even sentinel role.
There are NCPS that fill this role… It is commonly agreed nowadays that the gender roles for Night Elves have been on a road steady dismantling since WC3? I also can not find a place where Watchers/Wardens are stated to be explicity female, and WoWiki even states that they are MOSTLY female, with some males.
Can anyone point me to a source confirming Either way? Cause well i’ve had some pretty rude interruptions from ppl(I mostly just /ignore) But am I wrong here in trying to RP M.Nelf Watcher?
I’m asking cause I love the lore and I love keeping it lore friendly for everyone it gives us a common footing for building great stories.
Jarod was made the leader of the Darnassus-aligned Watchers (???) during Wolfheart, so I think it would be odd if he didn’t allow any males. Blizzard sadly never lost another word about these.
The Warden faction under Maiev on the other hand seems to only have women among them and their trainees on the isle.
I can’t offer too much on this specific topic, but I’ve found that some nelf players - though not all - are needlessly puritanical, and if your character doesn’t directly match their idea on what a nelf could and should be, then your RP is lesser or lore-deviating.
Generally speaking if you see an instance of it by Blizzard (like male sentinels in the Darkshore warfront) then I don’t see why it wouldn’t or shouldn’t be fair game.
Unless you’re doing some really out there, wacky, no-possible-justification lorebreaking stuff, I think you’ll be fine. And even if you do go all-out and disregard the lore set in place by Blizz, there’ll still be roleplayers who wish to play with you, even if at that point it won’t likely be all too many.
Playing out a somewhat more obscure figure in a male watcher or sentinel is hardly some absurd concept to me.
Yeah – I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Blizzard don’t tend to fall on lines of gender restrictions anymore. We know that Jarod leads the Watchers, and as a comparison the formerly female-only Sentinel Army allows male elves now too.
Although, just to be on the safe side, I’d avoid claiming to be loyal to Maiev’s contingent; she’s a night elf fundamentalist who probably still clings to those gender roles. Jarod’s lot are gucci though.
As others said there -are- male watchers, among the Darnassian watchers of Jarod Shadowsong. But Wardens, whom are technically superior and higher in rank are only female as we have seen, whom followed Maiev.
It’s likely that the two organizations merged after Darkshore but not much is said as far as I know and that’s a different topic. But yes you can surely be a Male Watcher and Sentinel.
