Malygos is right

I always feel bad when I stop for a moment and listen what he says. He is damn right mortals are messing with the world.

That feeling fades when I got the loot tho. And when you think, even that proves him right.

Most bad guys have a really good point.

I think the irony of classical heroes is that they are 1-dementional and actually don’t do anything but protect the status quo, not letting society evolve for the better.

To be fair, I don’t see Malygos is a bad guy. Thinking with his perspective, our lives matter to him as much as flies lives matter to us. How old is he? Ten thousand? Millions? Billions? He and his kind has all the eternity to live on and some wizards with middle age crisis messes with the powers can destroy the world he lives.

It’s like butterflies trying to destroy the earth. We like butterflies now but we would try to extinct them aswell.

Edit: Forgot to mention, and this is not the only reason I don’t see him as a bad guy. Most villians enjoy the havoc they cause. But this guy (if he is honest) doesnt want to torment us just want to solve his problem. He says it himself “I thought I can end your lives quickly”. Cheers to the guys who written that character.

Just guessing here
 15-20 years max?

Leave me be in my madness. I might kill few thousand ppl or dragons meanwhile but leave me be ffs. Wait, Jaina and Thrall are using magic? Wipe them, they have no rights to use magic, noob magicians. Leave me be.

The matter with Malygos is that well
He really sucks at his job doesn’t he? For someone who was supposed to protect the magic since dawn of the aspects he pretty much did absolutely nothing until he felt he’s at point of no return.

And when he does he’s not really that much better than mortals he despise so much. Tearing the land asunder. Enslaving and murdering beings that have nothing to do with his crusade (like why the heck enslaving those Tuskari in Borean Tundra?). Using the power of arcane to warp elementals and imbalance their power. Bending and weaponizing leylines just to eliminate other dragonflights.

You would fall into madness too if your brother tricked you to give him your gun and later used it to wipe out your family.

Imagine removing all the magic now. How we are going to face deathwing or the burning legion?

We wouldn’t even with magic. Cataclysm Classic will die out before it even starts.

I think you make a very good point.

Perhaps we are the bad guys? Maybe this is our own ‘I am Legend’ experience, with Blizzard’s lore writers being far cleverer than I initially imagined?

My initial thought in 2007, after learning that Malygos was to be a Big Bad in the next expansion was a to basically /facepalm, and imagine a scenario like this:

"OK so we’re gonna have this big ‘effin’ dragon as the next boss, he’s gonna have these AWESOME abilities, this Vortex spell that throws players this way and that, put players in a static field
and some other stuff we’re still working on, it’s gonna be EPIC!

“Sounds cool, OK so are there any big dragons in the game we could use for this?”

“Er
 lemme get my lore sheet
er
Ok this guy Malygos, he’s like, magical right? And the encounter is mostly gonna be about arcane damage, right?”

"Excellent, Malygos it is

wait, shouldn’t we give some kind of story reason for fighting him?"

"Story? Oh right, yeah
 Ok, let me think

OK er, how about: ‘He’s gone mad?’"

“Perfect, right let’s get to it. Now about this static field
”

If he kills people he is one of the best guys in this Universe:)

Eh doubt it. They’re not that clever. While undeniably Malygos isn’t entirely wrong about consequences of mortals meddling with magic his actions hinge in very bad case of overreacting. He basically jumps to annihilation straight up despite the fact that it would stand in direct opposition with Red Dragonflight (defenders of all life) and likely Bronze Dragons who are more than likely aware of the fact that mortal races wielding arcane magic are needed for the future to exist.

No. Only Jaina does. Malygos cares about arcane magic.

Thrall does not have arcane magic. He actually doesn’t have any magic of his own at all. He only knows how to communicate with the elemental spirits and asks them for favors.

Drek’thar even highlights how similar this may seem to other kinds of magic by talking about the Warlocks of the Horde back in the day. A shaman can ask the Elements to strike down his enemies with lightning, setting them ablaze. A warlock can use demonic energies to set an enemy ablaze. Both have the same result but are entirely different in what they truly are.

And yes, frost and fire magic from mages are also arcane magic. It’s arcane energy used in a way that creates fire or ice. Thrall does not do that. He asks the spirit of fire or the spirit of water for help.
