I am INCREDIBLY hyped for the cool new Man’ari barber options in 10.1.7!
However.
I know that “lore wise”, the best fit would be to make a Warlock Draenei, once we get the new options in 10.1.7…
But Warlock is the one class that I don’t wanna play, for the simple reason that I don’t think it has any fun WPvP utility… I love its lore, but not its gameplay mechanics.
So I’m deciding between Shadow Priest, or Arcane Mage as my new main.
Which of the two are best lore wise? I’m assuming both would be a fit, since the Burning Legion would take any power they could get… But I can’t quite judge for myself how each fit with a Man’ari eredar.
I would say Arcane Mage
The Legion was formed by Sargeras to cleanse the universe of Void influence after all - but on the same note, how Lightforged Warlock could exist as an expert who studied the Demons and went a bit too far, a Man’ari could have studied the Void and slowly went insane and the Void or an Old God (maybe not even one that landed on a planet) warped its shadowy tentacles around her
And the Legion experimented with Shadow, Gloomhounds are felhounds or felstalkers that have been reforged and reshaped into something much more powerful, and imbued with shadow, Shatug as a prime example
And the Antaen Kin’garoth with his fevered brilliance in his workshop in the Hallowed Felworks of Antorus has developed new super-weapons for the Legion, including the Void-powered Garothi Demolishers
So would totally works - but I guess your Demonic Man’ari fellows would keep an eye on you, how deep you went on to that dangerous dark path… and if necessary?
Well…
Even Sargeras cleaved Telogrus in two, his slumbering lil’ bro’ because of Void corruption
It would be a dangerous game, but fun game
Lore doesn’t matter, a Man’ari can be whatever it wants to be.
Man’ari are simply demonic “draneii”, so whatever a draneii could be - a Man’ari could be. Heck, even Lightforged warlocks are a thing. So don’t try to use brainpower at all concidering lore reasons.
My vote is for shadow priest. The Legion supposedly felt that the Old Gods were a bigger threat which they were saving the multiverse from…perhaps your eredar jumped ship from the Legion to Azeroth because she’s less focused on loyalty to a specific faction and more focused on fighting the bigger threat?
The Manari are infused with fel, a chaotic energy, whereas Arcane embodies order. I do not think you can easily rp a demon wielding pure arcane magic without complications.
I don’t actually do anything special on this character, really. She is a sorceress (warlock) that specializes in making big, green explosions happen. Knows her demonology too, learned a couple of curses. I went safe with the concept because I feel being Man’ari is special enough haha.
But if she needed to cast an arcane spell herself, I’d probably have her cast it off another source of arcane because I am sure demons struggle to cast pure arcane themselves. Some argue these opposite energies would have you explode.
So I think its best to channel it off an external source.
I think the results of mixing ‘opposing’ cosmic forces/energies is (purposefully?) left a little vague by Blizzard, thus leaving it up to the RPers and the RP community.
My fantasy logic says there are other factors to consider, than just the opposing forces.
I usually RP my characters in such cases as extra vulnerable to the opposing force (for example exposure to the Light will be quite uncomfortable or painful for my void elf, while my Lightforged on the other hand would very much not enjoy exposure to Void or Shadow energy.
It would take substantial amounts of those energies to make them explode, though!
An arcane mage Man’ari, could be explained as a individual who seeks to use their arcane mastery to counter, control and perhaps even revert the effects the fel have ravaged on their soul and body.
Arcane is what Demon Hunters use to bind the demon, it can also be what this mage seems to use to bind their very feel of self. A last ditch attempt to find a way to stop their feared fall further into the realm of the demonic and evil.
If the Mage in question was one of those put in charge to understand and counter the threat of Illidan and his demonhunters, it would explain their knowledge of how these mechanics work.
Not to mention, Sargeras is a titan, his arcane might is unfathomable. That he had Man’ari work the arcane makes sense. No reason why he wouldn’t invest some of his endless resources towards it.
