I would say more like a race identity. You are of that race but you’re also this other thing as well. Would definitely be easier to achieve.
IF we were to give every character their own starting area for their skins, Night Elfs should no longer start in teldrassil, pretty sure Gnomes are no longer kicked out of Ironforge because of political reasons as well, Night Elfs, Blood Elfs have a “Dark ranger” looks to them, “Dark Ranger Night Elfs” should not even be considered Alliance in many ways, Worgens are no longer at war, they’d have their own starting zone again, in the purged Gilneas…

Honestly , it feels like people have forgotten that this is an RPG game . It is supposed to have a good story and you should be able to immerse yourself in it . You know , role play in a role playing game ?
But instead of the story and role play , the game has become almost an FPS , where the center is competing to run the content better.
Honestly if they removed all visual and story and just gave a blank white room , where people had to avoid game mechanics and defeat the challenge , people would probably still play it , because it gave them an achievement .
The least they could have done for Eredar to be playable is make some random ritual in Argus , where the player draenei surrenders the gifts of the light and embraces the fel to become Eredar . This would give them different (recolored facials) and the occasional npc throwing a rude or scared comment at them .
That is the bare minimum , but they did not bother doing even that .
Honestly they deserved a full blown quest with a hard scenario to get this . Something like the Green Fire quest for warlocks back in Pandaria . This one was epic .
I disagree with you, that will be a whole a lot of work for nothing, but your opinion matters too, I personally would rather they work on higher content, better stories, and I did that warlock quest back in Pandaria myself, it’s not really a flex, it was a cool, sure, but Starting zones, changing because of every race’s skin colors, meh, they got enough (Lore) from the questchain itself.
