Massive fps drops in encounters

Hi everyone, so I have this very annoying problem that keeps happening to me during raid encounters and generally in encounters where there is more people around. As the title says, my FPS drops from 160-180 to 20-25 during raid encounters. I have tried everything to make it stop or at least reducing it a bit but unfortunately nothing helps. I have tried without addons, with them, turned my Graphics all the way down - nothing is helping. If I had a PC that is not generally good in other games I would have understood, however, my PC spec are:
Ryzen R9 5900X
RTX 3070
32GB RAM
WoW installed on nVME SSD (Samsung 980)

I even tried to do some adjustment to the power plans and CPU usage but nothing helps and it really bothers me. The other thing is, there are people with almost the same rigs as mine but don´t have any issues in raids and there are people who have problems. Maybe it´s some kind of a setup inside a computer that I can check. If anyone has any suggestion please, I will hear everything and try everything. I really want to make this game work for me. Thank you!

I have the same problem here. And also tested everything. Nothing helps!

There is a number of spell effects in the game which introduce a higher FPS tax than 30 players on your screen attacking the same mob. It’s primarily those purple void or similar swirly effects on the ground. The fog effects are terrible as well. Not sure how many there are in the raid but playing some of the delves is complete misery. The Dread Pit is the worst, especially with 200 web effects and the fog I’ve mentioned on the screen. The moment I clear a patch on the ground using the lightning spell extra button my FPS goes from a single digit up to high 150s.

Many other things in the game demand attention because they serve no practical gameplay purpose other than to annoy the player.

In another similar post. They posted to drag up the Render Scale to 150%. I drag mine 200% and tested LFR and it worked. I dident have the same fps drop i did before. But im still not satisfied. Gona still keep looking for a better solutions.

I noticed this last night in my guilds raid, we have 30 players and on bosses I dropped down to 10-20 fps and it became barely playable. I tried everything including lowering graphics settings and playing without addons with the same result. This was fine last week so something changed!
I have 7950X3D, GeForce 4070ti with 64gb ram. The hardware is not an issue since after the raid I benchmarked everything and stress tested it and everything was fine.
This needs to be fixed since it destroys my enjoyment in raids.

Tryed alot of options now. And i will end at this. Go and look at Kephren youtube. He has a video up for best settings 2024. it worked best for me. Maybe not for everyone. Best of luck to everyone.

Yeah i stopped watching after i saw that he does not mention that the renderscale is bugged and destroys your FPS if set to anything but 100% even on a 4090.

This has been broken for a good 6 months now.

This is still a major issue. I would be really glad if some dev or anyone with inside could chip in here and tell us wth is going on. OVI NAX has me on 16FPS down from 132 during buffing.

same , also the GPU usage in raids is droping to 20% for no reason with almost maxed out settings - something is very wrong with the game/ game engine

edit - intel 9900k / 32GB ddr4/ M2 / nvidia RTX 4070 TI SUPER 256 bit.

That 20% is pretty easy explained.
Your CPU is a very big bottleneck, especially in WoW which is only using like 1,5 CPU-threads.
So your GPU which is very good in comparison will be extremely underutilized at times when your CPU can only prepare like 20-30 FPS or less.

What I don’t understand and am trying to, is the fact that not everyone gets these FPS drops and they have no problem in raids whatsoever. This is why I am asking for devs insight maybe there is some kind of a setup within the PC or CPU that makes change or whatever. I don’t know, I am really desperate to have the best experience but that OviNax fight yesterday was absolute dealbreaker for me. Really makes me wanna just quit it but there is no alternative to WoW. It’s the only game I play and this ruins my whole experience.

There are/were some FPS issues in the new raid but the last couple normal raids i’ve done had no extreme drops anymore, so dunno if they hotfixed something.

Anyways, what im trying to say here is that your CPU will always bottleneck you (in other games even so) and it might not be as “fast” as you think it is.

Check the CPU benchmark here at the bottom, your CPU is more than 70% slower than my 5800X3D and i’m at like 70ish FPS on average in a bossfight on normal with 20+ players, so 40ish would be expected for yours.

Look at the relative performance (mouseover the bars) not the numbers cause these are not raid performance but in a dungeon.

nah , i ve seen same cpu’s (speed/cache) doin way better in wow. and you are tellin me that players shoud have top CPU’s for decent performances ? well that is so wrong. also is the same problem in US. even more i have another station with the same CPU and 1050 ti , and runs fine. all the particles and efects are processed by the GPU not the cpu dude. my main core is not even in 100 % while gaming so again your logic is wrong. maybe there is a failed coding forcing the CPU to do some unnecesarry processing that should go to the GPU. but yeah for a 25 ppl raid i should runs everything smooth with my rig.
NOTE : also look at the recommended specs for War Within

Dude? Cmon, you can do better if someone gives you a proper answer.

Also the particles and effects are not what is causing the low FPS in a raid, it’s the stuff that is calculated by the CPU, like the combat log, addons, etc.
You can’t turn that down. It is what it is.

Ok, whatever you want to believe.
Google CPU-Limit, maybe you will understand it then.

It should, but it doesn’t cause the engine is very dated at it’s core.
There is no multithreading like in modern games.
You have to bruteforce it.

Where does it say that you get 60+ FPS with those specs in a mass player encounter like a raid or worldboss?

Anyways there are many threads about this over the years and recently.
You believe what you want to believe (and stay in the matrix  ).

first of all i do have a degree in computer science and working in IT for some long years so i really know what im saying and i dont have to Google anything , maybe you are, but not me. and yeah WOW already uses a form of mutithreading of with one core almost at full load. ppl are turning down everything and still have issues. with fresh install decent rigs and NO addons so yeah. google some more.

Aimjinx reminds me of Pawgwalker over on US forums. Just some wannabes that don’t know jack. I’ll try and keep it brief but basically I sell pre/custom PCs for a living.

All of them are tested thoroughly and they all have framerate drops/stutters in WoW ever since Dragonflight pre-patch. This is all tested with no addons, every combat log option turned off and so on.

It’s definitely worse in TWW tho, as even a 7800X3D gets way more stutters in Dornogal than Valdrakken. Don’t hold your breath for any fix.

Having same problems and not just me, but my entire raid, all of us. 30 people in heroic (maybe the 30 people is the problem). In raid when we pull and on certain abilities our frame rate drops to low and sometimes even single digits and becomes a slide show. We are all running on the lowest graphical settings in raid, we have all tried experimenting with not having addons, disabling as many things as possible. At this point this is very clearly game engine problem. Here are some of my details:

5800X3D
7800XT
32Gb RAM
obviously running from PCIE4 SSD

Even when my frame rate drops to single digits, my GPU and CPU are almost not being used at all, the problem is very clearly somewhere else.

Example what kills our frame rate is the Volatile Concoction on Bloodtwister Ovi"nax. Biggest damage event on boss when us healers have to keep people alive, that’s when game just stops working. We just have to play around with one button raid CDs cause we can’t heal. Raid is unplayable and not enjoyable.

I fixed this with reverting adrenaline drivers to 24.q2 drivers only install. This won’t help the intel/ Nvidia crowd though :frowning:
