I’ve done some research on the rated conquest gear on wowhead and videos from the beta and here’s what i found:
According to wowhead rival gear has an ilvl of 220: see https://www.wowhead.com/item=178352/sinful-gladiators-plate-helmet?bonus=6633:1492
if you check the “See also” tab there are other iteration of the pvp gear with combatant beeing 207 and challenger 213 but duelist or gladiator is missing. Several other conquest items have the same pattern.
In stoopzz video about arena gearing, we can see the upgrade tab for conquest gear: https://imgur.com/a/4imeEcb. Here we see upgrade 1/5 which would indicate combatant, challenger, rival, duelist and elite/gladiator, but here is why we got confused: The unranked version is actually upgrade 1/5 and not the combatant one. you can check this yourself with honorgear ingame where the base version is 1/7 already or in the screenshot.
This means we will only have 4 upgrades for the conquest gear:
i have doubts on wowhead as well in that case. However there are still only 4 rating upgrades on the beta with the first one on combatant already. we can only speculate but i rly hope that duelist equals mythic gear. this would actually enable us to get bis pvp gear in week 1 or 2 already
At the start of bfa this happened too and was then changed so I don’t have high hopes, but it would be nice to not need 2.4 for max gear. Rating shouldn’t even affect gearing imo, it should just make you get it faster.
Earning budget gear through PvP has historically always been easier than earning gear through raiding. PvP gear just never competed with high-end raiding gear. With the return of the PvP vendor, any class that values resilience in PvE is forced to PvP to target buy pieces for progress. This was no different in the old days.
This looks pretty good if it’s true. I was worried that good gear will be gated behind high rating but it looks like that PvP gearing is also viable for the average PvP players.
