This is completely irrelevant to leveling. Because we got to learn to play the game every expansion because of class changes and balancing. Not because you got to level a bit
guild wars maybe had less leveling but that doesnt change the fact that pretty much every fantasy rpg has leveling
i have never had to learn how to play my class each expac, its usually a few extra abilities
doesnt take 2 braincells to weave in a few cooldowns here and there
and
the " levelling process" each expac isnt about learning your new abilities . its about gaining noticeable power increase from previous expacs. so you can see the clear difference between a class stuck in dragonflight or the TWW ( level 70 vs level 80 )
its unfortunate side effect is the boring slog to get to max level each time, like we are children that dont understand or forget how to play every expac…
kinda disappointing we havent had a clever Dev take over and do something innovative
Gear has hyperinflation thats true and bad but yet again that has nothing to do with leveling, because you will have the same problem the very next major patch when the ilvl gets raised alot and you dont need to level at all
my suggestion is make previous expansion gear disabled
theres no need to increase ilevel if the gear cannot be used
this is a forceable reset
example:
dragonflight gear is disabled ( 300-520ilvl) upon TWW release
The war within gear start at ilvl 300 increasing to 520 on last season, and then disabled for next expac
the baseline each expac could be ilvl 300 and each expac resets to this power
im not a Dev but i assume this is possible.
that sounds absolutely terrible to me. Having the gear you worked for straight up disabled the next expansion sounds far faaaaaaar worse and more immersion breaking than having to level a little bit and get better gear along the way to replace it.
The opposite of removing leveling should be done. There should be more focus on it and have way less powerinflation on the gear. Make gear more rare as well. Leveling is a core of wow and i think most people can agree if we look back at vanilla leveling was a huge part of the game if not most of the journey. And people loved that game
you vendor the gear anyway, or delete it with quest greens. that always feels horrible
hard disagree here, that would cause too much imbalance amongst players and returning players trying to catch up
Honestly this, I level to whatever which lets me start queing dungeons and I never stop queing till max level cause I like doing dungeons for it. Also like others have said how would we replace it, its mmo and I would like there to be levels and concept of exp is tied to it and you do something towards it till you reached the level cap and then you start gearing and continue progress to the content whichever one desire. Its natural for mmo imo to have the concept of exp and levels and working towards it.
Yep you even could see stuff like reputations, artifact power or certain currencies for garrison/class halls/covenants as some sort of xp because playerpower or useful abilities are hidden behind it
As you basicly fill up a bar to unlock the next level for reputations and artifact power and garrison upgrades
Removing leveling your character and things up would remove so much from the game
well i personaly havent leveled any of my max level chars any other way then by spamming dungeons since WoD which was the last expansion with really decent questing experience
so thats that as alternative to quests
Loved it did all there was in it… and PvP was almost perfect lol… Yet all these years later no1 else can come close Not even WoW lite GW2
Waiting for WoW to offer Heroes Warband is a step there imo
gw1 was amazing, people still play it on private servers
I won’t say that I’ve played many RPGs (definitely less than 100), but I can’t remember a single one that didn’t have levelling all the way up to the final boss (and beyond in New Game+ modes). Hell, even non-RPG games after 2000 copied the levelling system from RPGs. So if RPGs exist without levelling, they are the exception and not the norm, just like how there exist First Person Shooters without ammunition per weapon.
I don’t even know of any hacknslash games that don’t have levelling!
Sorry but no. It’s what we enjoy.
This is even more anti-RPG than the abolishment of levelling! The fact that some tier sets or weapon effects are disabled is due to immense balancing headaches, not because the developers had that vision for the items they create!
That’s moot, people still play NES and Game Gear games on emulation. Hell, people still play vanilla wow on private servers despite Classic Era existing!
Well yeah, but the point still stands! They wouldn’t be playing it if they didn’t like its gameplay loop.
Absolutely, I’m not disagreeing with you in any way
I too still play OG Super Mario and Contra on NES, or Sim City2k or Destruction Derby, because the gameplay is there.
Well no ppl wanted 1-60 old school… Blizzard seen this and charged…
What? Not sure if I´m understanding you right or not…
People wanted classic (1-60) for many years and there was a large community both of people that played on private servers and people that stayed on retail but never purchased an expansionor or leveled past what was originally 60 but got more and more of their content “rebooted” out of their level range over the years (Naxxramas, Zul’Gurub)…
So when blizzard eventually managed to find a backup on an ex-employees hard drive it was a no brainer to introduce Classic.
That’s what private servers did… Then Blizzard started the whole classic one but for a sub. lol was it next to Randy’s Pen drive…
The “hearts” from GW2 are a pretty nice concept. When you get in range of the given “quest” it automatically pops up, tells you what to do and shows progress and upon completion you instantly get the rewards and a small thank you letter from the NPC. No need to talk over the fact that you killed 17 wolves and 13 rats for him. It can work for repeatable quests too. You could still leave the “oldschool” system in for those who prefer that.
