Hey guys I could not find much resources on that matter, so I figured I’d ask here, I occasionally hop on some melee characters to do weekly 15’s, however when I do get on warrior for example, I wait and wait to make sure the aggro is taken and then go in, there are moments when the aggro is completely on the tank, So Leah for example, the VDH kites her and gets like 3-4 seconds of hitting, then I go in and I get meleed for what I figure is no reason, just a random melee hit for 70k when I get near it, that happens on oher bosses too, but so leah is the shiniest example I can give as it just happened again.
What is the question?
bha… I use Plater addon. as tank, if mobs are blue I use defensives, if they are yellow I use taunt and if they are all red it means Shaman has used elemental or someone is going to die ![]()
As DPS if it’s blue I keep hitting, yellow I reduce my hits, red… run away little girl, run away.
I think you’re suffering from having a bad tank.
Usually when I play melee I can just charge in and start slapping, knowing the tank has aggro.
I’m not sure what kiting is there on So’Leah, maybe I remember the boss wrong, but you just need to move her a bit during the 2nd phase and that’s about it. The tank should simply taunt and have immediate aggro. Maybe she has a mechanic where she slaps a melee if there’s no tank in range? I dunno.
But overall you shouldn’t have to wait for the tank to get aggro. The tank should get it immediately. It’s not a problem for bears, paladins and prot warriors. I’m not exactly familiar with the other tanks, but I don’t have any problems when a monk is tanking as well.
DK has 2 taunts.
Are you sure you’re not accidentally hitting your taunt ability?
Unless you are playing with the same tank and there’s a big gap in gear (or they are just not playing well) it’s not normal for a warrior to pull threat off the tank all the time - unless that is you are taunting the enemies off the tank.
Demon Hunters do have enough burst damage they can briefly pull threat off a tank but any decent tank will be expecting it if they have a DH in the group and take it back pronto.
The other possibility is a pet class with taunt turned on which can pull threat off the tank and then have it jump onto a DPS before the tank can react.
If it’s a regular tank most likely they are pulling with taunt instead of a damage ability, which can result in them losing threat if they don’t do enough damage up front before the taunt drops off.
Soleah melee hits everybody when she goes to the middle, stay away from her then and instead move to your star /relic.
Bosses (without adds) are really the rarest for aggro problems. Even when we had Skittish, they were pretty much a vacation from it. The tank has only one target to worry about, and that target gets their taunt, and the longer the fight goes, the harder it gets to keep overaggroing.
You should make sure your UI lets you know if you actually have aggro. Everyone should. It prevents the silly logic of “If I have aggro, I take damage, therefore if I take damage, I have aggro”. It keeps people from blaming the tank for something the tank can’t help and it keeps people from holding back when holding back won’t help.
Warrior life im afraid, range dps need 130% of a tanks agro to pull off the tank, melee only need 110% & crits generate more agro, if i recall correctly
Warrior is also an up front instant hit spec, if you have say a druid tank who needs 3 stacks of thrash ticking & a few swipes to generate decent threat, thats an issue,
when “Warrior go zug zug” “me smash” charge, recklessness, bladestorm thats a insane amount of threat
Just asking for death
Thanks for the replies, but it is nothing related to aggro I am afraid, the tank has it just fine, but some bosses just wack me randomly when I get in range, long after the aggro is taken by the tank
Your face is so hideous even bosses don’t want to see it ![]()
It is not a “Melee Aggro” problem. It is a Warrior Aggro problem
.
I have less problems since 9.2 though, before that Oh deary, if the dung were 10 death’s that was 9x me in a trash pull ![]()
Probably that can be a problem here. Best to just remove it from bars - if you were to emergency tank, it’s highly likely an impending wipe as is.
Also, if in melee range, you have to exceed 110% of the tank’s threat to get aggro. For ranged it’s 130%. But Skittish hasn’t been in the game for a huge while, which is the only time you actually have to watch your threat - if your tank does their rotation well you should be safe.
…and, of course it can be an ability targeted against melee, or a cleave of sorts.
Anyways - I recommend you aren’t greedy on DPS, OP.
Low dmg done > no damage done (because of an early death). Always remember this. ![]()
Curiously enough, back in S3 I was in group with 2 warriors. One orc, one blood elf.
The Blood elf had to wait before going in to fights, because he literally got smashed in the face the moment he charged in. Our orc warrior did not have this problem. He was doing more damage and charged in on pulls and he did not snap aggro. Our blood elf warrior seem to have done so as well.
There was even an occasion in Sanguine Depths where we did the double pull at the start. Our Blood DK walked in and used blood boil before he went on to get the next group, while our Belf warrior just kept walking behind him. The end result was that our warrior got beaten into a pulp before our DK got to pull the second group, and that was with our warrior doing literally nothing (we even checked back on damage logs and he was just walking along with the tank.)
Something is definitely going on with aggro from time to time, most notably with warriors. We didn’t have issues with an orc warrior in our group though, so I do not know.
Has happen to me a few times when a fury warrior charges in and starts doing bladestorm when I am gathering the mobs to do the nuke cleave. But normally I try to use a Offensive CDs just to increase my damage on initial pulls, so other DPS can go nuts with their CDs straight away
If you feel it happens a lot? Just wait,1 or 2 seconds maximum after the tank pulled and THEN go in with CDs and have a blast, should be fine after that ![]()
To be fair, I’ve played with 3 diff BM monks yday and not only are they super squish compared to DK/Pally but also their threat regen is horrible…
I’ve never had to wait with bursting since 9.2 got released with any other tank then Monks…
No idea what is different but it seems they need ALOT more kiting and therefor alot less threat generation going on.
Warrior attitude spotted! I always gladly let your type of beyblade classes die. Warriors just can’t hold their fingers for one millisecond. and are the worst in terms of melee aggro.
Exactly this, I can give the tank 2-3 seconds to get aggro, the only thing I will do is press Charge. And I get hit randomly by a boss or some random mob, even before pressing any damage button
I’ve never seen a bm monk disappear faster than a prot paladin.
