Mercenary Mode

Just a thought really, let me know what you think :slight_smile:

They could add a mercenary mode where you can;

  • Operate for either faction in PvP/Dungeons for faster queue times.
  • You can earn mercenary reputation for access to transmog items and learn the race languages the longer you spend as a mercenary (so you can talk and understand any race) and earn a title.
  • Fight against horde or alliance when war mode is turn on. You show as neutral if turned off and players of either faction can invite you to groups.
  • Your main cities in Azeroth would be a revamped version of booty bay and ratchet.

What you can’t do;

  • Enter your opposing factions main cities, you can enter your original factions, but with limited access, e.g. you can’t use the bank or innkeepers but can use auction house and portals.
  • Earn reputation for your original faction, or do specific faction quests.

Mercenary mode would really be aimed at level 50-60 players. You can operate in the shadowlands as normal, and as mentioned above regarding war mode.

I think it could be pretty cool to revamp some older neutral towns and cities, and allow players to choose Mercenary mode. You could get a tabard to earn reputation with them so that you can learn race languages and transmog items. You could also take missions/quests to earn satchels filled with rewards for queuing dungeons and PvP as a mercenary. Then you can switch back to your original faction at any point, but lose access to the mercenary towns and cities. But you can take your learned languages with you and your transmog items. Might not appeal to everyone, but I think it could be cool.

It really is high time we got rid of the faction divide for raids and dungeons. I would love to be able to play in a ‘neutral’ faction and your ideas are cool but seem a bit involved. To be honest, at this point, I would even take something as boring and mundane as an NPC that temporarily transforms me into a troll. Can’t be hard to do, most of the tech is already there, as evidenced by the Dazar’alor raid that switched your race and faction. It worked so well they needed to hotfix it because it initially prevented you from using Boralus hearthstones and Mage Portals, so we know it was a true faction swap and not some kind of workaround race change.

But yes, we really need this to be a thing. Even the WFR players memtioned it recently because they are fed up with the faction population inbalance and would probably switch to Alliance if it didn’t cost them their established community connections and the potential recruit pool.
