I’m a casual player and I’ve been giving it a lot of thought recently, I really want to try doing some endgame content such as Rated PvP and/or M+ but I feel like I’m being held back a bit because of my spec.
I enjoy playing a BM hunter and it’s what I am used to playing, I have used guides in order to know what legendaries to craft and what talents I should choose in different scenarios (such as PvP or M+). However, I also read that because of class balancing atm that a MM would do better since they are the best spec for DPS.
I really don’t want to compromise and have to grind out for another legendary that benefits MM when I know I don’t really want to switch.
So my questions are as follows: How many people actually care about what specs have “the edge”? What can I do to improve my gear without having to switch specs everytime I want to get in a PUG?
TL;DR: Can I do high endgame content without having to change my spec?
Hey there, Define endgame content if its just getting keystone master aka doing all dungeons on m+ 15 BM is fine, but be aware many groups will decline you because you dont play a meta spec, if you want raiding and mythic raid is your focus i dont think that guilds are even going to consider taking you over a MM hunter. But play what you enjoy and do your best. I have seen rlly good BM Hunters so they are viable to play tho.
I am in a guild that is fairly casual, raiding two nights a week, being now 10/10 HC and 3/10 Mythic. Two of our few mainstays in our raids are BM, and they do fine. At least one of them have Pugged (!) her (!) way to having timed all but one on 17. The one she lacks she has timed on 16.
So yeah, BM is viable. Though not quite as good as MM, it is way better than many other DPS speccs if played well.
in this case he will be limited by much smaller aoe burst that BM has compared to MM .
BM is more then fine with consistent dmg - but it looses badly when it comes to burst. its not even comparable when doing m+ with whole group that bursts a lot (15-20k) because trash dies relatively fast.
it may change in incoming patch with buffs to BM and BM burst legendaries.
Advise is to find the right guild. Find guildies or friends to play with.
The answer is yes you can progress end game content as a non meta spec, just need to find the right guild / people for it to not be so taxing.
You can do it via pugs If you don’t mind getting declined like over 20 times before getting into one group. You will really need a lot of time spent just getting into a group if you pug it.
edit: the dps numbers don’t matter cause it all depends on the player, the meta is only there for the high end players it means nothing to regular players like us who aren’t in top 10 worlds. I am sure there are BM hunters who do more dps than MM hunters. The only issue is the public opinion since they live by the meta standards set by the top 10 worlds.
No idea about m+, but bm hunter is playable in 2v2 and 3v3. In fact, in 2v2 bm hunter / healer is one of the better comps you can run right now, which isn’t hard countered by anything.
This. My goodness, this so much. I think this comment could single-handedly solve a lot of problems that people talk about in terms of PvE, as they often stem from the simple fact that they are trying to play an MMO game “solo.”
Find a guild, or a Discord, or just make friends and play together with them. Join a community where you are not just another nameless face in the crowd that appears and disappears thirty minutes later. Play with people who want you on their team because you’re you, not because your spec is in the current meta or because your rio score is a few points higher than the other hunter’s.
I think you were just more lucky in bfa. Or maybe you had better ilvl or gear that gave you better opportunity to be accepted compared to the average. Too many unknown variables.
But if you look at how everything is designed and the balance of the specs, it is in a much more balanced state compared to bfa. Rogues were like required since skips were essential in bfa. Right now the dungeons are designed so you don’t really need to skip, and the specs all seem pretty decent with the required utilities stuns / interupts, etc.
For every player that will go find communities and guilds it will solve everything. So it is the best advice. Actually not only for non meta spec-players.
There is nothing else that could be done then, it is really up to the individual.
Don’t ever expect an online game with different type of playstyle or designed specs / classes to ever not have a meta. There will always be certain specs / classes that is above the rest that is just how gaming works. And with how the current gaming generation is everyone wants the best success chance so they read up on all the guides on what is meta what to do to min max.
An example is think of the pug leaders / creators as people trying to hire or recruit a new employee. All these recruitments always ask for experience in that specific trade, but being someone who is new you, never have experience, and you can never get hired since they always looking for someone with experience. It is because they do not know the random person capabilities, so they can only gauge by information like experience, qualifications, etc.
Why pugs go with meta cause information says it is good right now, so higher chance for success. And why they look at raider score cause you know the individual is experienced.
I am sure 90% of people find jobs or get hired due to friend or family recommendations. This is the same as having a guild / friend since they know you and know your capabilities.
This is more of a social standard then a game issue, hence why finding a guild or friend is the best solution.
for raiding, you take the player, not the spec. Raiding is much more mechanics execution than pure DPS ability. You will get invited as BM hunter to raid if you play good.
For m+ is kinda hard, but truth be told, no one will bother checking what spec you are when they see hunter, they will figure it out after the key is in lol.
It will be harder to find a guild, but you can for sure. (obviously you need to prove yourself and for example if your goal is to get into a great mythic progress guild then you’ll need to have 95+ logs in heroic at least).
for once its time to bring out wow out of stone age into 2021 by respecting how majority of people play this game and giving them solo ques for all possible content in game.
2nd is banning toxic addons like raider io
wow is extremly outdated game at this point because it has no systems that suit current generation of gamers - its only catering to “dinosaurs” now. and its doing very bad job .
