It’s a way for Blizzard to incentivise gold sinking before Shadowlands, with the revamped professions im sure Blizzard wants to make the economy less of a dumpster fire than it is right now and what better way than to have a whopping 5 million gold sink that everyone and their grandmother wants?

highly doubt its for making people buy tokens, even tho if ur really close to the 5M u might.
its more about keeping u subed, ever since they anounced it Legion i started the goal of geting it and went from averaging 500k gold tops to starting BFA with 7M gold
during BFA i kept that mentality of “how to make gold” and was able to get lots of stuff from BMAH i always though unreachable.

New expansions are about starting fresh, so my thought was they wanted everyone to dump their life savings into the long boy. With it being removed, people are more inclined to do so.
Remove the AH from it would not bother me but keep the mount ingame .
