Mistweaver Mastery change

Why changing?
As far as i understand, healers need to have either dmg reduction, some special niche, or some sort of necessary utility to be viable for progress.
Mistweavers are either broken HPS-Wise and suddenly they are “viable” or they arent broken hpswise -> not “viable” for progress, because they have no dmg reduction, special niche.
They do have utility in the form of Leg Sweep, Mystic Touch and Ring of Peace.

Apart from Ring of Peace and Mystic Touch, Mistweavers have nothing that makes them good or at least special in some way. Sadly every progress guild has at least one Brewmaster. This nullifies the need for Mistweavers.

In an ideal world we have 6 heal specs and every progress raid is happy with any combination of them. The reality is, that the usual healing setup is 1-2 hpaladins, 1-2 dpriest, and maybe 1 rshaman, because one mechanic requires a spirit link.
This change tries to improve this situation.

My Suggestion:

Mastery Change
Bonding Mists:
Bonding Mists will be applied to allies while they are affected by Enveloping Mist, Soothing Mist, Renewing Mist, or Life Cacoon.
Targets affected by Bonding Mists receive up to 3%(+Mastery) more healing from you, diminishing as more allies are effected by Bonding Mists. (To improve scaling issues in solo / small group situations)
Targets affected by Bonding Mists prevent 3%(+Mastery) of their damage taken.
Damage prevented this way will be redistributed evenly between all targets affected by your Renewing Mist, Soothing Mist and Enveloping Mist.
The damage prevention effect is doubled for allies affected by Soothing Mist or Enveloping Mist, and tripled for allies affected by Life Cocoon.

The damage prevention of Bonding Mists does not stack with each other.
Redistributed damage does not break crowd control. (necessary for PVP)

Essence Font:
Same healing Effect but Targets affected by Essence font will receive twice the effect of Bonding Mists (Mastery)

Cocoon Change
The interaction with Mastery will make this a proper single target cooldown. The numbers can be tuned down considering the buff by the mastery interaction. With high mastery this can rival PainSup, in lower gear this is similar to ironbark.

Revival Change:
Same healing/dispel effect, but considerably reduced healing numbers. Instead there is a new effect:
Renewing Mists will be applied for 10 seconds to every target healed by Revival. Existing Renewing Mists will be prolonged accordingly.
(The wombo combo potential with vivify/manatea/essence font is huge, and it’s a lot more fun and interactive, than the current iteration. This can also be used as a pseudo tank cooldown in emergency situations)

Number example:
We have some Mastery -> Damage Prevention 5%
The Tank is affected by Essence Font, Renewing Mist, Soothing Mist, Enveloping Mist. 5% (Mastery) * 2 (Essence Font) *2 (SM, EM,RM – only the strongest effect, since it doesn’t stack) = 20%
Renewing Mists is applied to 4 Targets (including the Tank)
20% of the damage prevented is distributed evenly -> everyone will be dealt 5% of the initial hit.
This results in a damage reduction on the tank of 15% during essence font.
If there is high raid/group dmg on everyone our mastery does no damage reduction at all.

Summary
The new mastery will help the raid with spot healing. The current iteration of Vivify fits perfectly with the new mastery, enabling the mistweaver to be a spothealer with the addition of some aoe-healing. It also interacts decently with the new covenant abilities.
Mistweavers progress “viability” isn’t dictated anymore by our numbers being op – or not. Since currently the only reason to bring a mistweaver is raw hps. Instead we have some sort of niche/uniqueness with this change. So even if monks do not top hps, they are still usefull.
It synergizes with other healers. (especially with the less represented specs in progress raids - rdrood / hpriest)
The new Mastery is different but it does remind me a little bit of stagger, and as most people know - Brewmaster are top tanks, when it comes to progress raiding. Since smoothing out damage intake is very valuable.
sooo…

What do you think? Is this concept too strong?

Ps.: I actually would give Hpriest something similar, but that’s another topic

I kinda like the monk mastery, been playing in arena lately and it’s pretty awesome, the problem with it is that it does NOT scale with group size! They could just add some kind of cleave on it if it over-heals.

Essence font bot in raids are not fun, it should be mainly used to apply the double mastery buff, would be cool to get the refreshing breeze PVP talent in raids.

I also like revival, raid AOE dispel is pretty cool. Instead of changing Revival they could just add in some bosses that benefits from AOE dispelling.

I don’t think cocoon is that bad, Yes it’s more reactive then proactive but its a niche and it can save your team mates if they are already at 1-5% hp.

After playing all tiers my summery is
Raids: Essence font bot is terribly boring and feels uncompleted. MW needs a complete overhaul in the raiding area

M+ Monks feels kinda fine but runs oom easy and our dmg is kinda low. We lack that that little extra like druid Battle ress or Paladins insane DMG

Arena. Monks healing are very strong with mastery and we got good utility, only issue here is our dmg.

Current mastery of MW is only viable for burst healing when you get more healing from your healing…but that’s it…

Mastery as it is has no connection for fistweaving and is only connected to traditional caster healing.

I would love to see some changes to make MW more desired, because we don’t have much to offer and also connected to both playstyles.
Every other healing class have their healing increased for %mastery based on current hp of target… or proximity from target… or increased healing for every hot… and their mastery boosts all their healing spell… We get some healing from 3 specific spells + soothing mist channel chance

Akâsha’s proposal is kinda good if Blizz could tune it right…

  1. if Gust of Mist wasn’t adittional heal, but weaker absorb ( covers target in mist for %mastery of healing done)

  2. Your heals has %mastery chance to cover target in mist to absorb next XXX damage for X seconds… reducing potency of next absorb if healed same target in X seconds…
This would turn mastery into absorb shield or could be HoT similar to H Priest, but with chance to proc it from all healing abilities, including fistweaving heals

  3. Your heals has 33% chance to mimic healing on injured ally for %mastery of healing done
Siege of Orgrimmar cleave trinket similarity

  4. Your healing done has a %mastery chance to grant target Mist Sphere to heal target for %mastery when they take damage (XX seconds cooldown)
Impassive Visage inspiration to make mastery slightly more reactive

  5. Initial healing from renewing mist increase target’s damage done of next spell by %mastery/2 and Damaging with Rising sun kick reduce enemy’s damage done of next hit by %mastery.
Slightly buffing ally or debuffing enemy based on spell used

Current biggest problem is that mastery is only used when healing with Vivify, Enveloping Mist or Renewing Mist … you talent yourself for full fistweaving style…and mastery is as useful as train toy next to boss… and that hurts and we are forced to go full crit and leave mastery far behind every other secondary stat.

Thanks for the Reply,

Yeah the current Mastery isn’t connected to many aspects of our healing toolkit.
Changing Mastery in a way that it applies to every ability would be the highest priority.
All of your suggestions include adding hps (/or shields)
BUT buffing our mastery to “only” bring more hps, will make us green holy priests.

In my opinion mistweavers utility is quite low compared to hpals, discpriests, or shamans. Instead of adding hps by buffing mastery, i would rather change it into beeing our utility in form of damage smoothing. (it also fits the fantasy. weaving and bonding players together, smoothing out the damage intake)

Regarding fistweaving:
Since the new mastery would be universally useful, fisweaving will benefit directly from it by being able to splash onto more damaged targets. (dps wise mastery is still bad though^^ - but thats true for most healing specs sadly)

There is a lot of room for new abilities that could bring utility like that or more… paladins have blessings and hands … shamans have totems … we have Life Cocoon

I can imagine we could create wall of mist to reduce incoming damage to targets behind … or to cover tank in mist so boss could land a hit… thats another issue … we have weak mastery and no utility in our spellbook.

There is a lot of things that could be changed.
Chi wave … I have never seen any MW use it  I kinda like Chi Explosion, which could take its place … Damage target and heal closest allies or heal and ally and dmg closest enemies…

All other healers mastery works like hps increase to their complete arsenal of spells… I would welcome even that.

But you are right with that soothing damage … that would be cool. But that won’t propably happen… no one at Blizz cares about us :frowning: there is so much possibilities in kung-fu mist art that could enhance our spec.

TBH I would be happy with a borring mastery that allows us to scale, rather than the current one that makes us geting outscaled every tier.

I honestly thought this was a good idea, but well i guess everyone will say that about their own ideas ^^

I looked through all the conduits and soulbinds, but i didn’t find any interactions yet that could benefit mistweavers especially well.

Im also reading the us feedback forum and…I’m getting the feeling that Mistweavers dont get very much attention. Least played class afterall :/.
Additionaly windwalkers have so much more issues than mistweavers, that people rather tend to talk about windwalkers.
If windwalker is fixed, maybe blizzard will adress mistweavers afterwards^^

it’s still kind of saddening that it will be probably another xpac full of disc/hpal(/sham) progress raid healing again.
Maybe mw can shine in m+ instead with that new way of the crane talent.

Too bad new chi-ji talent is still bugged  MW is full with bugs and stuff missing.

Only mastery change needed is having rising mist proc gusts of mists instead of an arbitrary heal. This way fistweaving would be viable with a haste mastery build, where you can essence font and double kick with TFT and you’d get double mastery proc on people with the essence font hot. Essentially making you a melee disc priest. I don’t know why this is not implemented, it would allow for two different playstyles (upwelling, rising mist) with competitive HPS.

Well… we lack care in beta and we lack care from devs at all… too lazy to come with something that could fit fantasy and actually work…better to nerf what we have and give it to other classes.

lot of MW abilites need some rework, mastery especially… and all we get is another heal CD.
Only if Invoke Yu’lon would cover raid in absorbing mist with DMG Reduction…that would bring something new…but instead we get Invoke Chi-ji rerolling to Yu’lon with same effect…thaaaanks
Let’s stack crit+versa again.

Gust of mist needs to be removed.

What if the Mistweaver mastery spawned mists that granted avoidance or damage reduction. The mists could even grant a hot or heal for more when standing in the mists.

Rising Mist proccing Gust of Mists would be the best thing ever! That would be amazing <3
