Would it be possible for a Dwarf to come from a family that had Dark Iron mother and Bronzebeard father for example, or is/was it considered a taboo?
Would it be possible for a Human to come from a family that had Black mother and white father?
I think this will answer your question
I would have thought so. As in biologically we know it can happen, else Moira’s son would have no claim to the throne of Ironforge. So Biologically, yes, entirely possible.
Would it be taboo? -Perhaps- less so these days, than it would have been ten years ago and longer. I mean any point between the War of the Three Hammers and the reconciliation with the Dark Irons, you’re either looking at something icky-bad best kept out of game, or you’re looking at a tragic Romeo and Juliet kind of scenario, even then, such does not need to be the case, look at the Thorium brotherhood, plenty of Dark irons there, most famously Hansel Heavyhands, and they were always neutral. So it depends, Dark Iron as an Ethnic group, or your full on ‘Team Ragnaros’ type?
Either way, as Rashingan pointed out, it would be possible, but your character may have suffered, and still may, some dirty looks, as mixed race children sadly can still suffer from to this day.
I’m afraid that’d look like this one guy that I saw RPing a half night elf adult.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that the current state of the Alliance and the Horde is fairly new in the grand scheme if things.
The dwarf clans weren’t really happy with one another up until just a couple of years.
So while biologically, yes it could happen, culturally it’d be a bit of a special butterfly.
I’d personally stay away from that particular concept, to be safe.
Yes it’s possible (The current Heir to Ironforge is the son of Moira Bronzebeard and the late Dark Iron Emperor Thaurissan) But it is an extremely taboo and contentious state of affairs.
The council of Three Hammers itself was founded because Moira’s son being half Dark Iron was considered enough of a threat to plunge the City into Civil War.
Please tell me that was hyperbole, and not an actual ‘thing’ I mean what next, were they born on Darnassus?
The Night Elves have not been in contact with -anyone- else long enough for an adult half-thing to be…possible, and that’s a massive cultural shift anyway! “We have been isolated for ten thousand years and suddenly in the last ten years have found other species, for good or for ill. So I decided to bang one, for shiggles” I mean how does that work? “Yeah, I moved to Wolverhampton, and there was this really friendly Alasatian dog, and they were so friendly I decided to bang it, even though it was an entirely different species and is culturally a big -NO-.” (Before you go ‘Ewwww’ that -is- the backstory of all three Windrunner sisters) How does that even make sense?
Half Night Elf half what? What the heck is a Night Elf going to want to breed with, that isn’t another Night Elf?
Yeah, I was as “amazed” as you are, and yes, it was intended to be an actually serious and indepth RP character.
I mean, it can be a bit cringey to see night elves having a human, draenei or some other race as a significant other, but I’d give it a pass if the relationship is given sufficient character development.
As a sidenote, I see a lot of romance RP where characters go “I’ve known you for a week! You’re nice! We’ll bang, okay?” then there’s engagement and marriage in the next few months, which is not how things work.
But if a night elf meets a (let’s say for easy example) human, and they become close over time, and they actually have synergy, then sure, I dig that.
But it isn’t even a “night elf bangs first alien race they find and they have a kid” scenario, it’s literally impossible for an offspring to be anything more than a little child in its early teens at best (which is already a stretch) from any union a night elf might have.
There just hasn’t been enough time for said offspring to be an adult.
Okay, I went for a bit of a rant, but I think a dwarf with parents belonging to two different clans is less extreme, but falls into the same category.
