MM PTR Testing Feedback and Bugg reports

Buggs:

  • Razor Fragments not given from Deathblow, occuring when it proccs back to back (refreshes?).
  • Spotter’s Mark doesn’t procc from Black Arrow consuming Percise Shots, only Arcane Shots and Multishots.
  • Black Arrow sometimes removes Spotter’s Mark
  • Spotter’s Mark doesn’t give 60% procc chance when consuming 2x stacks of Precise Shots.
  • Spotter’s Mark doesn’t seem to work conistently as I’ve tested consuming 83 Precise Shots during a 9 minute test period on “Kelpfist” training dummy, and I only got Spotter’s Mark 2 times. Statistically it should be around 25 Spotter’s Mark during this period with 30% chance baseline when spending Precise Shots. Given that I used Trueshot 4 times during this period, It should be higher than 25 Spotter’s Mark. Maybe somewhere in the range of 35-40 Spotter’s Mark during this 9 minute test.
  • Consuming 2x stacks of Precise Shots does not give 2x stacks of Streamline with “Moving Target” talent.
  • Auto Shot sometimes buggs and takes a longer time to fire than intended. I noticed this as Auto Shots take too long between each other that I get out of combat and my Details report gets reset (starts new session). According to combat log and Details addon, this happens can happen every 6th Auto Shot. If not on the 6th, then possibly again on 12th, 18th or 24th and so on.
  • Bulletstorm & Incendiary Ammunition stacks removed when firing Rapid Fire again. This creates a problem in Trueshot where if you use Rapid Fire with Double Tap, you gain 20 stacks. Then if you fire Rapid Fire again, you remove the stacks completely and gain 10 new stacks, rather than refresh existing stacks.

Initial Feedback:

  • Rotation feels OK but you get to a point where there’s a need to do steady shots in succession as a gap filler since everything else is on cooldown.
  • I’m doing less DPS than on live at the moment, with higher ilvl. Sure, the numbers I hit when hitting are higher but according to DPS meter, it’s quite a bit lower than live. (VS. single target PvP Dummy) Given that there are several core buggs preventing for example Spotter’s Mark to procc correctly, and a few other things that impact cast time and/or damage. This may change once everything is working correctly.
  • Spotter’s Mark should be applied longer, perhaps 20 seconds? I see no reason why this should have a cooldown lower than 20.
  • Increase duration of talent “On Target”, this should be 20 seconds as well as I don’t even get another Spotter’s Mark before it runs out. I got up to 3 stacks once during 30 min testing before it dropped. Usually dropps of around 1-2 stacks. This is mainly due to buggs with Spotter’s Mark making it not procc frequently enough.
  • 2p bonus has barely any impact what so ever given that it’s only 100% damage and 0.3 seconds with PvP Modifiers atm. I rather see low damage increase but higher reduction on cast time. (increasing procc chance of Deathblow and Lock n Load)
  • With so fewer auto shots due to Precise Shots, Lock n Load rarely proccs and same with Bleak Arrows. Lock n Load had the least amount of procs out of anything. If I only did auto shots, Bleak Arrows should be the same given they have the same procc chance of 8%. I suggest to either raise the procc chance for Lock n Load and Bleak Arrows or move the auto shot change away from Precise Shot Talent as that talent is mandatory for MM.
  • Arcane Shot feels very lack luster, does almost no damage and being forced to press it when Black Arrow is not available really feels like a waste, but neccessary to convert to Streamline. I would like to see a big damage increase here for it to be useful in the rotation. Right now, it’s almost as fun to use as Steady Shot…
  • PvP modifiers for Bulletstorm and Incendiary Ammunition is -50%.
  • It’s hard to tell what other PvP Modifiers they have put in place as I can’t see it in tooltip like the two mentioned above.

Due to buggs with Spotter’s Mark it’s hard to test say since I can’t utilize talent’s tied to it.

Tier set gives reduced auto attack speed so i would guess it gives about the same amount of speed as we have today.
But remember this is also a 100% increase the damage each auto attack is doing.
It sounds like they are trying to make auto shot better for MM so this dark ranger making it shadow might make it even stronger

Dark ranger is not good for MM anyway

Hey,

In short, the intention is to counter-balance Lock and Load.

Since Aimed shot will become 3sec cast, it will also become much stronger as well (20-30% more dmg or so baseline). This would make lock and load procs disproportionately stronger compared to live, as they only gain the upsides (increased dmg) and not the downsides (increased cast time). Additionally, there are some talents that decrease the time between your auto shots, f.e.

`In the Rhythm

When Rapid Fire finishes channeling, the time between your Auto Shots is reduced by 1.0 sec for 12 sec.`

and

`Marksmanship

(2) Set Bonus: Your damaging spells have a chance to hit a Jackpot! that increases your auto shot damage by 600% and reduces the time between auto shots by 2 seconds for 10 seconds. Casting Trueshot always hits a Jackpot!`

Overall:

  • you’ll have 2 sec slower auto shot baseline
  • only 1 sec slower after rapid fire for 12 sec
  • but during Trueshot (when you’re spamming rapid fire anyway) it will be actually 1 sec faster than on live (increased by 2 sec but decreased by 3) so more lock and load and black arrow procs

My question is whether In the Rhythm will be must passing point for Dark Ranger build (yeah, there are people that want to play this hero talent and want it to be viable)

I forgot to mention I’m purely thinking from a Arena (PvP) perspective. Having the rework central around auto shots and aimed shots. Rotating Percise Shots and Streamline with mainly rotating between Rapid Fire, Aimed Shot, Arcane Shot as well as Black Arrow. As Rapid Fire and Aimed Shot will give Percise Shots, and consuming Percise Shots with Arcane Shot or Killshot/Black Arrow (with Moving Target talent) will give Streamline… You’ll simply rotate through these abilties will also provide cooldown reductions on abilities depending on other talent choices. Given that you can have 2x Streamline does accommodate the increased cast time of Aimed Shot.

There’s likely to be PvP modifiers on these abilities as I can see some being insanely strong, like Deathblow procc with 2x Percise Shots, increasing Black Arrow Damage by another 50%… It’d crit for +3.5 million in Arena if it was live now.

Auto-Shot is under 1% of total damage for MM Hunters, the damage that auto-shot will do will have next to zero impact on the actual gameplay. I don’t know the thought process here at all, I don’t see it. Makes no sense to me. I think the’ll change this. Break out the 100% damage and 2 second cast time increase to a separate talent and it should then be linked with In The Rhythm if anything.

It could be available to pick from Ammo Conservation → 100% dmg and 2 sec cast time increase talent → In The Rhythm.

My point mainly being, don’t put this into Percise Shots. Put it somewhere else where it’s optional.

From this change, you move Improved Deathblow into In The Rhythm position, and put Razor Fragments where Improved Deathblow is now, From Razor Fragments you have headshot/deadeye talent choice (same position).

I get the general idea of how they try to redesign classic/core hunter abilities and playstyle around Aimed Shot, Rapid Fire, Arcane Shot, Kill Shot and Explosive Shot. But, they need to fit Dark Ranger much better into this rework. From what I can tell now, before testing… There’s likely to be a lot of changes and adjustments before release and I’ll test extensively on PTR as well.

I’ll give my feedback here later on the rework.

Same for me, I only care about PVP.

I think they’re still at core rotation and haven’t thought the hero talents through.

Dark ranger clearly has to be iterated on, because essentially it only makes black arrow usable at any health during trueshot now, if I read it correctly, which isn’t amazing.

Hopefully they drop the PRT patch today or later this week

Yeah we’ll have to see how the cooldown reduction, cast time and rotation will be. Will it feel fluent? will we be focus starved? will there be gaps where we can’t do anything else but to dump focus with arcane shot and/or cast steady shot? We’ll just have to see and test.

But as it is now, they are reducing the amount of procs from Auto Shot quite a lot. Sure Bleak Arrows will do more damage but I rather have low Bleak Arrows damage and more Black Arrow proccs.

Further more it’ll be interesting to see how the Deathblow + 2 stacks Percise Shots (+50% damage with Headshot talent) will hit. If on live now, it’d be our biggest hitter by far.

Setting up:

  1. Explosive Shot
  2. Rapid Fire (+1x Percise Shots)
  3. Trueshot + Double Tap + Aimed Shot (+1x Percise Shots)
  4. Black Arrow with Deathblow + 2xPercise Shots (2x Aimed Shots + Explosive Shot hitting at the same time)

Now that’s a killer line up.

Currently looking at this build for single target: https://www.wowhead.com/ptr-2/talent-calc/hunter/marksmanship/dark-ranger/DAQURFVQFUFViQRBBEUBQNVRVFVVVUCQVAVCUQEFVVUCFADgxf6kppagxnj

Depending on comp and map, switching around a bit for more cleave.

However, keep in mind how huge the 2-set will be. Whenever it procs, the amount of lock and load and black arrow procs will be the same as on live (it counters the 2sec penalty). And when you use rapid fire, you gain 1sec more! So it will be even better than on live - even more procs than currently on live.

At the same time, you lose both 8% haste procs that exist on live, so you’ll be playing with 15% haste less.

Overall, I think it will be the same. I wouldn’t worry about the auto shot stuff.

Edit: regarding the build you posted, I’m considering a similar build myself, however I think Improved streamline will be huge, because it will double-dip from Tensile bowstring. If you take both, the benefit of Streamline during Trueshot will be 45%, can stack 2 times, so you can fire aimed shots with 90% reduced cast time, which even beats the 60% on live

As I said, it’s going to be a lot of testing to find the best “go-to build”. It’s going to depend on uptime of that 2-piece set bonus and what it means in terms of damage. There’s a lot of multipliers and some interesting talents that can stack and synergize well.

I think we’ll get haste from “On Target” talent, when fully stacked will give 16% haste.
Since streamline will be able to stack, 40% haste will be good enough and during Trueshot you’ll have 60% haste with two stacks. So, Aimed Shot during Trueshot with 2xStreamline should have faster cast time than global cd.

Unlike now, Black Arrow will not be fired automatically during Trueshot but needs to be manual, taking up another GCD to fit into the rotation. The exiting thing here is that it’s likely going to be a scenario where we can follow-up Aimed Shots with a Deathblow buffed Black Arrow, leveraging 2x Percise Shots stacks for +50% Black Arrow damage.

Again, all just speculation at this point but it’ll sure be interesting to play around and see what the min-max stats and rotation will be both from a DPS over time perspective and burst windows on goes.

Also, when I read of 2p bonus for MM on wowhead, it says it reduce cast time by 0.5 seconds… not 2. Which is quite a difference. The damage is also only 200% not 600%.
“Your spells and abilities have a chance to hit a Jackpot! that increases your auto shot damage by 200% and reduces the time between auto shots by 0.5 sec for 10 sec. Casting Trueshot always hits a Jackpot!”

odd because what i read is this:
Marksmanship

  • (2) Set Bonus: Your damaging spells have a chance to hit a Jackpot! that increases your auto shot damage by 600% and reduces the time between auto shots by 2 seconds for 10 seconds. Casting Trueshot always hits a Jackpot!

This is from the article wowhead has on their Pinned news.

The big thing is that we need to actually play it to really know it is so hard to know for sure with all the changes happening combined.

Maybe what I read was a typo then since Blizzard’s original post does say 2 seconds for 10 seconds and 600% damage.

Indeed, there are quite a few differences between what’s datamined and what’s in the official notes. The 2-set is just one of these.

Everybody expects the PTR on Tuesday/Wednesday this week, then we’ll know. And I’ll be testing everything

I didn’t play it yet, just watching some videos on YT and I am so upset! What they trying to do with this class!? NO ONE asks for most of these class fantasy changes. What a bad idea with all those eagles, bears and boars! I am playing hunter not for some random, stupid animal companions, I’m running around whole game world to collect rare pets and trying to play with my favorites, and they now force me to play with one model of eagle on my favorite spec, MM? :man_facepalming: This is not strong class fantasty, this is lazy design without a bit of creativity. Revert it pls.

Key buggs that impact damage and test ability on PTR:

  • Spotter’s Mark is not working with Black Arrow with Headshot talent when consuming Precise Shots.

  • Ebon Bowstring still not working with Razor Fragments. This results in a Black Arrow that does 50% less damage. (also not working on Live version)

Feedback on buggs:

The main issue stopping testing things properly on PTR is Spotter’s Mark not working with Black Arrow and Headshot talent. Not getting Spotter’s Mark have a huge impact on Aimed Shot damage output. Without Spotter’s Mark we lose 50% damage (Improved Spotter’s Mark & Eagle’s Accuracy) and 15% crit chance (Killer Mark).

We also lose the ability to properly test how other talents such as “On Target”, “Target Aquisition” and “Calling the Shots” should work and the impact they’ll have on performance.

Going back to damage output, Arcane Shot is increadibly lack luster where with 2x Precise Shots, it does very little damage. Almost the same as an auto shot, and that’s with 2x Precise Shots which increases Arcane Shot damage by 160%, which is around . It feels aweful to press and is almost not worth it, if it wasn’t becasue it gives Streamline.

Tests on PTR on PvP Dummy
Stats during test: 69 842 agility, 23% crit, 10% haste, 19% mastery and 16% versatility.
Talents: https://www.wowhead.com/ptr-2/talent-calc/hunter/marksmanship/dark-ranger/DAQURFVQFUFViQRBBEUBQNVRVFRFVUGRVAVCRAEFVVUCFADgxf6kppagxnj
Damage:

  • Normal Arcane Shot ~157k, and crits for 214-250k

  • 2x Precise Shot buffed Arcane Shot hits for ~450-460k, and crits for 640-730k

  • Normal Black Arrow ~520-580k, and crits for 900-950k

  • 2x Precise Shots buffed Black Arrow hits for ~920-980k, and crits for 1,4-1,5m

  • 2x Precise Shots with Deathblow and Razor Fragments buffed Black Arrow hits for ~1,2-1,4m, and crits for 2.4-2,6m

You do less than half the damage pressing Arcane Shot than Black Arrow. 4-5 times less damage from Arcane Shot if Deathblow and Razor Fragments buff is applied as well.

Given this, I’d like to see some increase to Arcane Shot damage and/or increase the procc chance of Black Arrow and fix so that Black Arrow now properly have a chance to apply Spotter’s Mark. We need to have Black Arrow fit better into the rotation, and Arcane shot needs to have a better impact when we’re not able to use Black Arrow.

Feedback on other talents and abilities:
I think Auto Shot cast time is way to long and provides way too little Lock N Load as well as Deathblow proccs. In a Solo Shuffle game in Arena, each round is usually not longer than 3 minutes and during these 3 minutes, you do not have 100% uptime on auto shot due to cc, line of sight etc. getting a Lock N Load procc is like winning the lottery at it’s current proc chance.

Futhermore, I think procc chance for Spotter’s Mark should stack depending on the amount of Precise Shots stack. If 1x stack then 30%, if 2x stacks then 60%. At current state, if not able to use Black Arrow, you benefit from dumping single stack of Precise Shots with Arcane Shot to have a chance of getting Spotter’s Mark and Streamline.

“Moving Target” should apply Streamline for each Precise Shots consumed, 1x Precise Shots = 1x Streamline and 2x Precise Shots = 2x Streamline.

The “On Target” talent needs to change, I feel 4% per stack, stacking 4 times it OK - but you never really get to 4 stacks since each stack counts and applies individually, not refreshing the buff and adding stacks. This leads to an underwhelming 1-2 stacks at best, during Trueshot, if lucky you get 3 stacks for a couple seconds. My suggestion is to increase the duration 15 or 20 seconds, make it so that each time you consume a Spotter’s Mark, you add a stack and refresh the duration.

“Bulletstorm” and “Incendiary Ammunitaion” talents should do the same as in my suggestion with “On Target”, they should increase stacks and refresh duration of buff. In current state, it removes the current stacks and buff and apply it again. This creates a situation where if I Trueshot and Rapid Fire with Double Tap, I get 20 stacks for a full duration, but given that Rapid Fire cooldown resets faster in Trueshot, when I press it again, I lose my 20 stacks, and are given 10 new. Thus, pressing Rapid Fire again actually reduce the effectiveness of the buff I have and damage of Aimed Shot.

Eagle’s Accuracy should be a 1 point talent, not 2. It feels really aweful having to dump 2 points into this in current state. It has low impact compared to other talents that could be choosen with if we could free up one point. Talents such as: “In the Rhythm”, “Obsidian Arrowhead”, “On Target”, “Target Aquisition”, “Quickdraw” or “Aspect of the Hydra”.
