MMOs for Roleplayers - which are left besides WoW?

it apparently has pockets of rp still, mostly guild based but you see things occassionally on tattooine, nar shadaa, dromund kaas and Coruscant

Do you think that WoW RP is dying? Surely the community looks like it is shrinking more and more. Is it inevitable? Should we let it happen?

WoW RP is definitely on the decline right now, sadly. The Dalaran community went from ā€œvery active in the eveningā€ to ā€œbarely anyone online even at peak hoursā€ over the course of a few months, and most of that decline happened very rapidly during this summer. It was disheartening to be making an IC presentation to an audience of four.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it is.

Inevitable? I’d say no, but I’ve said so before, and I’ve been wrong before. Who knows

Hard to say. There still is a reasonable amount of people around, and RP always takes a little dip during the summer, but no one can deny that it has declined quite a bit.

Of course not.

I popped in with some old friends (those who were still active) a month ago, and there are still localized areas and groups RPing. Most of them went the way of the dinosaur because of the Zakuul expansions. Timeskips and the narrative being centered around ā€œthe Outlanderā€ player character didn’t foster cohesion in the RP narrative iirc.

Not quite. I’ll try and not repeat what Vakosh has said.

There are still bits and bobs of RP around but mostly guild centered.* I’m in a Sith Intelligence guild myself and it has decent activity, and there’s also an upcoming RP-PvP campaign in early August which will probably draw around 100 or so RPers.

*On the Darth Malgus server so no idea on NA side.

WoW RP is likely on the downturn right now, but is it dying? I’d assume not. Even with it struggling like it is now, the community is probably larger than most MMOs were at their peaks in terms of roleplay.

from what ive seen AD’s communities fluctuate always through the years. sure things are a little worse now but like you said, even at its lowest WoW rp had a bigger community than others i’ve seen.

For something to be dead there has to be 0 people left. I don’t think we’ll ever be in a situation where no one is going to be RPing in this game, there will always be some people. In terms of numbers yeah its definitely going down but as others have said, it’s been doing that for a while and AD still hasn’t been completely abandoned.

How many are playable.

WoW RP will only die once Blizzard decides to kill the game, aka shut down the servers. Some RPers aren’t really that bothered about the game itself compared to others and they just want to RP etc. which is completely fine of course, however as someone who actually cares (cared) a lot about the game in regards to content, it’s just not worth playing anymore.

I could just subscribe again and then pretend it’s all well and good and RP a few times a week, but that would be a waste of money and massive copium.

If we’re talking BDO then barely any of those lol, you can play as your typical ranger elf and aside from that (to my knowledge at least) it’s all humans.

Giants are essentially Kul Tiran humans with a massive hunched back and Shai are just lallafels (children).

Dwarves, demi-whatever and orcs, goblins etc. are all non playable.

Not to mention, the races will just be tied to whatever class they’ve been assigned to

In a decline for various reasons, SL as a whole isn’t really that healthy. Sure you can make your own stories, but you don’t know what else is going on in the world which is lame. How are the remaining leaders doing? How’s the armistice? What’s going on with rebuilding efforts?

It’ll come back when the next expansion or a relevant patch hits.

Yeah this in particular i’ve never been fond of.

Hell, weren’t classes originally even genderlocked?

Or so they say…

I wouldn’t be too certain, the state of an mmo as is can leave a permanent mark on RP communities using it

Shadowlands is the end of WoW. 10.0 will never arrive.

Why do you hate me?!

I doubt it will bounce back to the numbers it had during Legion and early BfA. So far from what I have seen its guild RP suffering the most from SL and public RP in places like SW seems to be mostly untouched.

I am interested what the numbers will be like in a month or two when the news will have moved on from the charges against Blizz and people return to their daily lives after their summer breaks. Will the exodus continue? Will it go faster? Or will some people even start to come back?

Considering the quantity people that totally forever got rid of their blizzard stuff give me karma upvotes to the left back during the hong kong saga (isn’t that still ongoing? idk all these super heroic internet circles kind of dropped it when the internet points ran out)

I’m sure a considerable amount of people will quietly pop back into WoW as well

All these others MMOs seems so fresh and exciting until you complete the levelling experience and finish their story campaigns. I would also not be surprised if a few people will quietly come back once the novelty of playing other games wears off. And really, that’s okay. Nowhere does it say you’re only allowed to play/RP 1 game.
