I just did the world quest challenges in maldraxxus and was a bit confused by how often mobs were going grey like horde had tagged them.
But the people attacking them were fellow alliance, but because I’m not in their group I see them marked as if a horde had attacked them.
Did Blizzard re-introduce old vanilla’s/classic’s mob tagging systems?

I did some farming of leather in the same zone, and noticed a lot of grey mobs that had not been touched by anyone. Looked as if it was bugged.

I noticed it too, no idea why though :S

I really hope they haven’t brought vanilla’s mob targetting system back, it was awful.
it was so bizzare, groups of alliance all around not a single horde yet everything I had yet to attack was grey but another alliance had attacked it… turning it grey.
Even when I had a mob down to 50%, another alliance came in, hit it and it immediately turned grey to me.
Tagging is a outdated cringe mechanic
I noticed this as well. As soon as two players tagged a mob, it swapped to grey for some reason. Pretty sure the tag-cap is more than 2.

Right, but you can’t even commit if you wanted to as they go grey on you.
Before it didn’t matter, you could join in on a fight as long as an alliance had got to it first. Now you can’t tag or even commit!

It’s been like this at least for a while now. It was never changed “back” I think. If a group of 5 tags a mob you won’t get it anymore.

I don’t recall it being a BFA thing, but it’s definitely when a group hits a mob.
As this was a WQ, no one would be stupid enough to convert to raid as they couldn’t progress the quest. So the magic number must be five on the nose as you say.
it seems bugged though, like as mentioned in one case I was deepsing a mob, had it around 50% then it suddenly turned grey when more alliance came to it.
You can’t tagged mob which one tagged by group - it’s been same like while.

Iirc there is a limit to how any players can tag ordinay mobs. Number might be somwhere between 5-10 players.
I came back with last patch BFA sadly with the new dailies in the 2 old zones .5 max can tag and no cross faction tags anymore on rare’s/elite’s
They were most likely a group of 5, and all nearby.
Party of 5, when they tag a mob, it goes grey, even for same faction.
and why do we even have faction tagging in place still!? they got rid of “kill rare elite” wqs so now they all involve killing mobs that you have to fight for with the opposite faction. Do you have any idea how tiresome and offputting and stressfull for that matter it is to constantly have to stay alert so you can tag mobs before other faction does? Either deactivate faction tagging atleast on pve realms or put horde and alliance in seperate shards

Yeah I started to see that too, if a party tag a mob you can’t tag it anymore which is really annoying. And the worst part when you tag a mob they can still at it and it will be lootable for them too. So they are getting the best from both side while solos can’t do anything.

If it’s a 5 player group, they insta gray it. If you manage to attack the mob before the 5 player group however, you all get credit.
