So I have started to having this issue after I got my new laptop (its an HP victus)
So basically, Ive had abelites on Shift+X, Alt+2 etc, they used to work on my old set up but on my new one they don’t while I am pressing the W button to move
Keeping in mind that some of them work but few don’t
has anyone had this issue before and/or know how to fix it
Not sure if i’ve understood your issue correctly so apologies if that’s the case.
Shift+X and W+Shift+X are two differnt combinations so that may be the issue. Have you tried adding the combination of W+Shift+X and W+Alt+2 as the alternative sequence in the keybind settings? (Each bind can have two combinations assigned to them).
Another thought, as you said it worked on your old laptop but not the new one. Has the new one got any keyboard or other software installed that might interfere with key combinations? I know HP tends to install a whole load of bloatware.
I tried the keybinds in game myself to check if it was a game issue and i didn’t seem to have any issue using them while pressing W to move forward. So as you said they should work.
If everything works in notepad then perhaps it’s just an in-game issue. Are you sure another keybind you have set in game isn’t conflicting somehow?
It could still be a another program running on your PC,it doesn’t have to have an overlay. Have you anything that runs only while in full screen/game mode or running in the system tray that could cause it?
Sorrry, not sure what else to suggest other than that.
I think you are right it must be a background application, the issue is its a new laptop and I really do not know what the app could be, I open the task manager and I see ALOT of apps, as you said hp tend to put a lot of background apps.
It also might be windows 11 tho idk, the issue is happening in both wrath and retail which is really annoying
Ill go through trial and error and see how it comes out
Never thought of that. I’m on Windows 10 myself, which i’m guessing your old computer probally was too. So it’s possible it could be a Windows 11 thing.
Could it be n-key rollover, not all keyboards can handle certain keys being pressed at the same time, especially keyboards and laptop keyboards not specifically designed for gaming.
I know you said that you tested in notepad, but notepad will just read the keypresses sequentially, not simultaenously. So thats not a very reliable test.
A dedicated keyboard testing program would be better.
Your description really sounds like problem of the keyboard not registering all pressed keys at the same time. Notepad is not very good way to test this as it is easy to miss when modifier keys like CTRL etc. are pressed. I would suggest trying one of the many online tests or finding a downloadable one for more accuracy.
Alternatively, if you have a decent keyboard (mechanical or rubber dome which can handle multiple key presses for sure etc) try testing the combinations with it.
Thanks for replying, what you both said are correct.
However I did have tried the combination in other games and other mmos even and it was working fine, And I do not think its a laptop keyboard issue as well since my old laptop that I had, was actually not a gaming laptop and It was actually working fine.
I found the issue actually, one of my friends whose using the same laptop i have, downgraded his to windows 10 once they got it, and everything seems to work just fine.
If that solves it then i wonder if it’s related to the XBox Gaming Bar and other Gaming settings in Windows. I beleive that it’s much more embedded in Windows 11 than 10.
Anyway just a thought. If you have not downgraded yet then it might worth checking those settings first.
