Monitor pc problem

Hi pp.
I’m in a bit of a strange situation.
About 4 weeks ago my pc started acting weird. When booting my pc, both monitors would stay black.
I found out removing the second monitor before boot would help.
I could plug it in after boot and it would work so I thought okay…
But this stopt working as well.
Now it would only work if I would remove the cable from the power supply or remove the cmos battery.
But now yesterday evening this wouldn’t help as well, and I needed to reboot my pc 8 times before I would get my monitor to work, this felt very random.
I have tried different monitors, different gpu, different cables.

Friend tell me just to dona reinstall of windows.
Any thoughts ?

Thnx

Update your drivers? I’m not very techie though.

Did it all.

Might be as simple as the cable, or possibly the slot where it connects to.
I’ve lost an HDMI cable like that. Age aside, it may have developed issues being left in a colder (5-10°C) room. Another half a year later it completely doesn’t work. My hunch is that the section connecting the pins (the plug part) with the internal cabling is somehow gotten wrong (rusty, disconnected, isolation issues). New cable, all is well.

4K HDMI is quite unstable to begin with. Sometimes my TV flickers quite a lot to pick up the signal. Other times, it’s fine from the get go.

No such experience with DVI or DSub (VGA) however. Although the latter doesn’t cut it anymore.

If you’re not properly grounded, it can also collect static and cause various issues.

Thank you,

So where should I start?
I have tried different cables and both hdmi and display port.

I got a new gpu about a week ago, didn’t fix it.

When you switch on the PC do you see the BIOS screen before the screens go black or is just black from the very start?

If their black from the very start and your not even seeing the BIOS screen then it may indicate a hardware issue and it may not even be bootting the OS. Faulty/Loose Ram, a drive not functioning correctly or the PSU on it’s way can cause that.

If you see the BIOS fine and then it all goes black at the time you would see Windows logo loading, that may indicate a windows or driver issue.

Also try to boot without any USB devices plugged in. A faulty USB device could stop the machine booting correctly.

Be sure to up date other drivers too, not just your graphics. Outdated or corrupt sound drivers for example can cause issues with graphics/display.

I would take it to a fixer then.
Raevelyn above might be correct about power problems.

My own PC (purchased March 2015) tends to blue screen after starting it cold. So, despite my wish to turn it off, I just don’t. (On the upside, it does everything overnight.)

Its black from the start, yesterday I got it working after turning it off and on for about 8 times.

sounds like your pc has gone to the shadowlands and you should get a professional to have a look

May I make a suggestion that may sound crazy, but I have helped several people with that problem.

Run a wire on your cabinet and to a radiator to ground it.
believe me, it works
it is due to static electricity
remember and make sure that there is a good connection (bare metal) at both ends, so that it can get rid of the static electricity

What kind of power supply do you have (make and model) and how old is it?

This sounds A LOT like the kind of weird (and gradually worsening) problems you have when a power supply is failing.

Hi thnx

Well I just switch a few days ago…
First it was a corsair tx650 mx but because I got a new gpu rx 6800 xt I went fpr for the gigabyte gp ud 1000gm

So you have replaced both the PSU and your Graphics Card and still have the problem?

When you boot up and it works do you usually hear a beep and if so do you still hear that when the screens stay blank? (Some motherbaords use LED’s instead of a beep).

Yes, and the cpu 2

You could say it’s gotten even more now

Well I don’t hear a beep, but it looks like it’s running normally when my screen is black.
All fans are working with blackscreen.

Hmm, ok so new CPU, GPU and PSU … that’s half the system you have replaced (and two of the more expensive parts)

The fans will usually run as long as there is power so that’s not really an indication if the BIOS is posting.

Not sure what else to suggest other than process of illimination. I don’t think it’s a RAM issue but have you tried re-seating it. Do you get the BIOS screen if you boot without any RAM at all?

Other than that check all your cables are connected correctly and secure and there’s no shorts with bare wires touching the metal chasis or board. If you have any SATA drives try booting with them disconnected.

If you still can’t figure it after trying those things then it’s possible it’s a Motherboard issue. Sometimes things start to fail like the capacitors around the CPU.

Well hello I’m back again.

Did a clean instal of windows and also checkt everything inside my pc.
But it didn’t help :frowning:
Ill try tomorrow with a new MOBO.

Let’s hope the new Motherboard solves everything for you. I suppose on the positive side you now have a nice new shiney PC

Do a clean install of Windows and all drivers after you switch out the Motherboard or you’ll likely end up with Window’s giving you problems.

At this point is it worth the holy trinity of motherboard, CPU and memory? Is it an old board atm?

A new instal again :sob::sob::sob:noooooo

asus rog strix b450-f asus rog strix b450-f is my old mobo…

Well the ram is not that old, about 9 months now, so I hope it’s not broken, it’s working fine atm…
My pc is working fine, that’s the stupid thing about it, its only when I want to put in on…

Process of elimination would suggest it’s the motherboard.
