How does it work?
Should I always channel soothing mist on targets who I cast enveloping mist on? That I use vivify on? Should I hard cast them?

You might want to read some guides here:

Although at level 20 just spamming Vivify should work for most dungeons.
Keep Renewing Mists up on as many targets as you can. Your Vivifies will cleave to these targets, giving you many times more output.
Under most circumstances, you can have 3-4 ReMists up at a time. (Use Thunder Focus Tea to give you 30s of one of them.) In M+, this means you can have 4 injured players and you spam Vivify on whoever is lowest (or the one without ReMists) and everyone will heal up.
Personally I don’t use EnvMist a lot, because it doesn’t have the amazing cleaving. It’s useful if your tank is taking light damage and you want to leave them alone for 10 seconds, but there are very few cases when a non-tank needs this on them. If you intend to keep beaming SooMist for the whole duration, sure, start with that before EnvMist. Otherwise you’re getting a GCD for SooMist and another for EnvMist, which is more than the total cast time of EnvMist. The intermediate healing done by SooMist is relatively little.
Same with SooMist and Vivify. Only bother if you intend to stay on that target for multiple casts, otherwise you’re increasing the time until you actually land Vivify on them.
Essence font is occasionally useful in M+, and very, very powerful in raids. If you use it in M+ at all, you probably want to fire it briefly to get the HoT on everyone, then cancel it by casting something else.
(Take all my MW advice with a pinch of salt because I’m the guy who can come really high on heal meters, and then regularly runs OOM before the end. I know about output, but perhaps not sustainability.)
In addition to this:
If you know this player is going to take or taking serious damage yes channel soothing mist on while you know others wont take damage and you wont need to switch fast to them.
Now if youre in a raid or a dungeon and you need to fast heal up several targets never cast through soothing mist because it will take you aloot longer to top up everyone.
Always have your renewing mists spent, never cap 2 charges.
In M+ Dont heal the 2-3 people affected by your reniwing mists, heal someone who is not and vivify will get to the ones that have renewing mists on.
When you know serious damage is coming in M+ try to be on par with almost 2 renewing mist stacks, pop your mana tea(im using mana tea in M+) cast Essence font and when you see all targets affected by EF HoT cancel channeling, then pop BOTH your renewing mists and start vivify hardcasts. If i know im going to need an essence font cast, i usually try to have a renewing mist available and 2nd pretty soon to get double mastery effect instant heals and then vivify hardcasts.
Assuming you have Secret infusion azerite trait in M+(you should), only use vivify after thunder focus tea and if you have an EF HoT on the target you will heal like a madman with the mastery double heal. If you dont have secret infusion trait use your thunder focus tea with renewing mists before you do the combo with mana tea mentioned above.
Personally since i dont use Lifecycles talent, i dont use enveloping mist that much unless i want to leave the statue + an enveloping mist on the tank and go to dps something.
Lot of useful information here
I am actually using env mist quite a lot - have lifecycles talented and it works better for me than mana tea (I do switch to it however for Temple of Seth. tyrannical etc.)
Few tips from me would be:
Use essence font only when you have at least 2 rems active
never apply re-apply rem on target who already have it
you want to do some aoe (spinning crane kick) to apply physical damage debuff
for azerite traits - this page helped me a lot - it will tell you how good each trait is, if it’s stackable/what part is stackable
don’t be afraid to use life cocoon or saving it up only for extra emergency. The CD is not that bad
revival also works as mass dispell, remember that super useful
I would just go on that website linked above, peak will tell you everything you need to know.
Otherwise i would just add to correct someones earlier post, that you should just target whoever is lowest hp with vivify. Someone having renewing mist on them shouldn’t really be a factor. If you cast on someone with renewing mist on them, it will apply vivify base heal+vivify cleave+ gust from casting vivify on them. So you will never lose healing by casting on ppl with ReM. This is something I personally tested like 8 months back, but if anyone wouldn’t believe me, you can always test it yourself by casting ReM on yourself then vivify and checking combat log.
So basically just heal whoever needs healing, even if they have ReM on them.
Anyway, just go to peak and have a detailed read, there was also a detailed description when you should use soothing mist and when you shouldn’t
I did not know this
Need to go heal a target dummy to verify, but if true it’s certainly nice to be aware that ReM adds a bigger chunk to our single target
While you are not wrong you cant correct that, in actual practice and real life thats what the optimal is supposed to be. Because its not about loosing HPS when youre inside a dungeon and healing alone, its about not over healing and not people dying.
Therefore, you heal the off RM target, the RM affected gets a portion of HP until you swap to him and top him. If you heal the RM target you probably loose the other until you swap on it in high keys ofc. Now if you heal with an RM target with EF HoT on them and maybe an EM you will most likely overheal, no it does not work in AoE healing like this unless its pure ST healing.
While Peak was really top of the line in legion it seems kinda outdated nowadays and really basic. Secret infusion is not mentioned with best comments there while its really, REALLY strong and you cant use both your RM’s in TFT while you have secret infusion unless you predict huge damage is comming in 30 seconds and you will have your TFT back but not your RM’s therefore you diminish the az trait.
