Monk or rogue help

Hello guys.
I’m deciding between rogues and monks, because I would really like to have a melee class asweel. I would play assa or outlaw or a windwalker, maybe a mw if really necessary, but mostly I want to dps. I know that rogues are really good in m+, don’t know about monks tho. My goal is heroic and mythic raids and m+(I’m targeting 15-20 mark this season). So I would like to know which class out of these two would be better for my goals, which one is easier to learn and are they pretty azerite dependant or not.

Thank you for your help.

Use trial to figure which class is more fun for you. If you like playing your class you will most likley perform better than with a class you chose because its fotm. If you go monk and only play one single specc you might get bored, if you go rogue you always have the option to respecc for fun or if one of the dps specs is underperforming, thats an option you wont have with the monk if you are limiting yourself to dps spec.

That said both dps specs can do what you want them to do and both are decent at it, while rogue is a bit more sought after in m+. I have no idea which are easier to learn that might also depend on your playstyle. For example personally I don’t like to track debuffs on enemys so Windwalker is easier for me to learn than assa rogue. Really depends on you.

You can go in mythic raids and dungeons pretty much with both classes, the problem is rogues are generally more shout after than windwalkers while monk will give you an advantage of having a tank/heal OS.

Dont know how fun rogues are atm,but i dont like that stealthy play style while i find windwalker probably the most fun spec ever tried so far.

PS
Rogue was, is and will always be the king of melees.

Monks give you more role versatility because of their hybrid class nature. Tanks and Healers are always sought after. DPS monk is decent and does do well.

Rogues give you more utility that is sought after in M+ and has the DPS to back up their claim for spots in those dungeons and in raids.

Generally it would come down to personal preference - for me, the idea of being the class that people hope to have in their M+ run is great. It won’t be so much easier if you have a Rogue. Instead it will be so much easier because you are the Rogue. Having some form of lucrative utility plus damage is always going to be alluring. That all said, I do prefer monk because I enjoy the playstyle and I like the fantasy of monk more than Rogue. I feel more comfortable sitting around as a monk than a rogue.

Mostly this.

Rogues are and will almost certainly remain high on the dps lists because it’s all they can do. You may find that the specs vary over time, and you might have to change if you want to chase the highest dps output, but one of them will always be very good. OTOH, you have to be geared and with a decent RIO score for any of this to matter. There is a lot of time that will pass between now and then.

WW monk is susceptible to balances and changes and goes up and down the dps meters, apparently because the devs are all ‘eh, they have 2 other roles they can be meantime’. OTOH, you can be either of those other roles on the way to 120.

Stealth is amazing for questing and levelling, and rogues can cut through solo content like a champ.

Healing and tanking are amazing for pretty much any kind of group content. Brewmasters don’t know that queues exist. Mistweavers queue for a few minutes, but it’s not that bad. Windwalkers go afk while queued and miss the prompt 38 minutes later.

Personally I’d have a really hard time committing to an alt that can neither tank or heal because it is so much harder to get into groups as dps.

Windwalker is good fun and certainly a high value pick in Mythic +, I’d say we are within the top 3 melee. For raids it’s perhaps not top 3 but certainly very strong, also has the 5% physical buff which make it sought after. Windwalker and Rogue are similar in some ways (combo rotation, squishy, bursty) but Monk is way more mobile, has some off healing and utility like ring of peace. If you like the idea of stealth however you may prefer rogue.

I play rogue and I can tell you, I’d swap to monk in a heart beat if worgens could be monks, thats the only thing limiting me is race choice since I don’t play on horde.

  • if you play monk you can get rival giga free since monk is hella strong in 2 vs 2 bracket. and you can play walking dead in 3’s
  • rogue requires you to collect multiple tier pieces to do Raiding or M+ If you played assa or sub atleast, outlaw it same lay out for everything minus one trait.
  • Monk dueling potential is great in comparison
