Monks and weapons

I recently started leveling a monk, sat around 60, and is now 100. I came to think about one thing with windwalker monks. They have 2 1-handed weapons but they never use their weapons to strike with. Even with 2 1-handers the damage is struck by hands. What is the class design for monks? I think that they only should use fist weapons or at least strike with the weapon now that they have. If they have a sword and axe, why still strike with fist? I think the idea behind a sword is to use it to strike with. If you want the idea of only punches and kicks, make them only use fist weapons.

Why do monks use swords and axes when they never strike with them? Would like to hear what the thought was behind monks.

They used to have an ability called jab. It had different animation depending on the wepaon you have and would be the only ability that would use a waepon. Since then Jab was removed and now wepaons are just stat sticks for them. Only fist weapons are actually used.

They can equip swords and axes because they used them to fight at some point, just like warriors or rogues can equip bows. Blizzard doesn’t go and straight up remove wepaon skills from classes. Also fist weapons are kind of rare and it would be hard to gear up a monk if that was the only weapon type.

Jab should just return. It was fun ability.

Yeah only fist weapons are used. But the good news is you can transmog one handed weapons into fist weapons and your character would use them in this case.

Can you transform any agility weapon into fist weapon? I would be using invisible fist at everything~ no weapon is best weapon :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

The windwalker hamstring ability still uses your equipped weapon.

Edit:

It’s Disable that uses your equipped weapons. You’d think that a man with three monks at 120 would remember ability names. Oh well, here it is in action:

And you can transmogrify them even invisible weapons ! Hand-wraps as they are called.

Yes you can. One handed axes, maces and swords can be transmogrified to fist weapons. Even warglaives can be done for DHs.

I’ve been playing around this evening and I’ve found that you can make windwalker monks attack with swords and the like. If you have a single fist weapon transmogged/equipped, they will use both weapons. Although it does lead to some… awkward moments.

Handwraps of Pilgrimage, you can buy them in Kun-Lai where you teleport to with Zen Pilgrimage pre-Legion. You can fly there after the teleport changes too.

They used to use weapons until Blizzard pruned abilities…

Yes! Those. I tend to use those on my monks, when I play them more actively because of the weapon clipping issue in windwalker in some situations. However otherwise I like to use random swords behind my monks back for login screen and visuals.

I like to use them on my main hand with a sword on my offhand so it looks like my Monk only uses one weapon.
Also having it on the offhand means he’s left handed and I think that’s a pretty unique mog idea.

Well, this gnome is just trying to kill himself. I would do the same if I was such an ugly and pestilent creature.

Same for casters, they have a staff strapped to their back but they never did any animation of the casters using the staff to cast spells. I kind of see ww monks as the caster version of the melee. But all other melee get to use their weapons but blizz prefer ww not to use weapons.
