MoP WoW 1 and WoW 2

So my chars that I made for MoP classic happear on WoW 2, and on WoW 1 the characters I had in TBC that I didnt play since them. Shouldnt they be in MoP too? They are now “unactive” and require a subscription to play. Wasnt WoW 1 retail and WoW 2 classic? Im confused

No the thing is what you have is:

The Retail WoW and Classic clients don’t interact with each other. You can play on both clients from the same WoW game license.

Each WoW account acts as it’s own independent key on the keyring. The key if active grants you access to both Retail and Classic content, but the 2nd key on your keyring doesn’t interact with the other 1st key and it’s content.

those are all chars from classic wow, the ones untouched since TBC classic they show up on WoW 1 but require me an active subscription while im playing on WoW 2 MoP classic with new chars

Alright trying to make it simpler:

WoW 1: You have toons here you previously used to play. They don’t interact with the other WoWs
WoW 2: You started a new sub on this, the toons at WoW 1 remain there.

but what are this different clients, shouldnt it be all classic? (wow 2) I have to pay 2x subscription just to play all my classic toons?

With a single game time purchase you can access World of Warcraft and WoW Classic, including Mists of Pandaria Classic, 20th Anniversary Edition, Season of Discovery, and Hardcore Realms.

I dont even play retail. I simply cannot access all the classic wow toons i have, some are in a WoW 1 client and others in WoW 2 but both are classic mop

Yes that has also been explained here:

Each WoW account acts as their own content books. Your WoW toons are stored in two different books.

so wow 1 and 2 are 2 different accounts linked to the same battlenet?

Yes.
The short version is: Your (WoW1) and (WoW2) are 2 keys, on the same keyring (BNET account) and do not interact with each other.

I’ve asked ChatGPT to make a better summary then me, in an effort to help you understand:

In World of Warcraft (WoW), different game licenses represent different accounts or versions of the game. Each WoW license is treated as a separate entity, and characters created under one license are tied to that specific account and region. This is why classic characters from one WoW license cannot be accessed from another. There are a few key reasons for this:

1. Account Boundaries

WoW operates on an account-based system, where the characters and progress made are directly tied to that specific account or license. This is especially true when there are separate WoW licenses, such as WoW Classic and WoW Retail. Each version of the game has distinct progression systems, servers, and rulesets, so characters from one version cannot be accessed from another.

2. Game Version Differences

  • WoW Retail (the modern version of WoW) and WoW Classic (which recreates the experience of the original game from 2004-2006) are technically different games with different expansions, features, and systems.
  • WoW Classic runs on an older version of the game, which means characters in Classic have different mechanics, content progression, and even some rulesets.
  • Retail WoW, on the other hand, is the current version of the game, with all the latest expansions and systems.

These differences in game mechanics, server architecture, and content prevent characters from these two versions from being interchangeable between licenses.

3. Server-Specific Progression

WoW Classic and Retail also run on separate servers. These servers are specific to the version of the game they’re designed for, and each version of WoW has its own set of servers:

  • Classic servers only allow characters that are created in the Classic version of the game.
  • Retail servers only allow characters from the modern version of the game.

A character’s progression, gear, and experience are specific to their game version, and transferring between them would cause major conflicts in how the game is structured.

4. Licensing Restrictions

  • Players who purchase a WoW Classic license are only granted access to Classic servers.
  • Players who purchase a Retail WoW license (including expansions like Shadowlands or Dragonflight) are given access to Retail servers.

Blizzard enforces these licensing rules so that characters created in one license (e.g., Classic) remain confined to that version, and cannot be transferred to or accessed from another version (e.g., Retail).

5. Character Progression and Balance

The progression systems between Classic and Retail differ significantly. WoW Classic focuses on a more challenging, slower progression system that doesn’t have the convenience features (like flying mounts or automatic dungeon finding) that Retail offers. Allowing characters to transfer between these systems would create a lot of balance issues and possibly diminish the unique experience each version offers.

In short, each WoW game license has its own ecosystem of characters, servers, and progression systems. Characters are locked within the license they were created under to preserve the integrity of each game’s ruleset and prevent conflicts between vastly different gameplay experiences.

You keep bringing retail into the conversation. I dont own a single char there which makes me confused.

I have 10+ chars on wow 1 MoP back from classic era and tbc, and 3 in wow 2 MoP. I have a paid subscription for classic but i cant play all my classic toons. This is a confusing af system i dont understand

I did not. The first paragraph made by Chatgpt answers your problem:

In World of Warcraft (WoW) , different game licenses represent different accounts or versions of the game. Each WoW license is treated as a separate entity, and characters created under one license are tied to that specific account and region. This is why classic characters from one WoW license cannot be accessed from another. There are a few key reasons for this:

You have 10 pages in book 1, and 3 pages in book 2. They don’t interact with each other on the same plank. Your subscription on book 2, only entitles you access to the 3 pages on book 2.

Each book (WoW) requires its own subscription to be active. If you want to play the toons on WoW1, you need to have a sub there.

I cant transfer my chars from wow 2 to wow 1?

You can.

This is only from Mop Classic to Mop Classic. (World of Warcraft® Classic Progression realms).

Also i dont understand why on other account that i have that wow 1 chars were interacting in the account i was mentioning, but for some reason those are all in WoW 2 what is up with that

This is a common mistake by the player that subscribes to the wrong account and then logins to proceed to do stuff there. We see it all the time.

The same for being unable to login the Classic realms, because they put gametime on the wrong account. You can generally fix that by submitting a ticket, but the toons will remain where they are if you played.

But then the same account gets divided into wow1 and wow2 for every server5

No not really, it always worked this way from the beginning of days where each WoW account acts as their own entity. In that regards, nothing changed between then and now.

I had 2 accounts in wow1, separate sub, one of them has the chars in wow1 and the other has them all in wow 2 i didnt change anything

If you had a seperate sub, it means you had two WoW accounts active, not only 1. So it was a mistake in the end mhm.
