More FPS with DX12 but image errors

Hello together.

I somehow have a lot more FPS and no lag when playing with dx12 instead of dx11, but I am getting frequently picture errors from time to time. I can fix them directly when swapping shortly to dx11 and swapping back after, but wondering what is causing it.

I thought about temperature problem, but checked it with CPU-Z and GPU-Z, nothing strange there. All way below the max temperature, even when full loaded.

I am still playing on Win7 which I could assume is a problem maybe. I have a AMD R9 290 tripple if that matters.

Thanks for your helpful answers!

I think you are right, Win 7 does not fully support DX12 like Win10 does.
You should upgrade (fresh install) to Windows 10 anyways.

Unfortunately, I can’t. But thanks for that hint!

the picture error has to do whit the latest driver patch, atleast if you using an nividia card, it gets removed whit dx11 that is true, but you get fps drops and stuttering instead then, whit dx12 you get those wierd flashes in graphics at times again.
some also said that going in to nivida panel and switch to manual select card, works, and in game removing tripple buffering, this worked for a while for me well a day, but started again, switched to dx11 but game feels odd then.

I am using an AMD though.

hmm seems both have same problems then, using nvidia my self and i get it also.

May i ask why?

Hmm on Windows 10 I have 2x fpr with dx12 and raytracing on…

Several reasons starting from older software and ends at that I got too used to it.

At some point I will have to make the switch, most likely when I buy a new computer, but until then I want to keep it as it is.

That’s great, but how did you tested it? I am also happy with the fps on DX12, was just wondering what the pixel error is causing.

Better sooner than later, trust me.

Can you upload a screenshot plz?

I also know a lot of people who hate win10, so I guess it’s personal preference.

I don’t know any

Ok, that looks really bad.
What about other games? Or a gpu benchmark?
Any errors there?

Nope, I also hadn’t this errors until some of the last beta patches. Like until mid november, I have never seen those errors on the beta.

It’s also not really often, happens maybe once or twice a day. A short switch onto dx11 and the switch back to dx12 usually fix the errors. I was just asking if there is any tricks or something to fix that in general. Any trick without forcing me into another OS.

Hi Prieala,

Reading through your post.

I understand you are concerned about moving to Windows 10 does make complete sense.

But are you aware that you could get around the issue you having with running windows 10 in 2 ways.

Run a virtual machine within windows 10 or alternatively the “bespoke” apps for windows 7 just set them natively in windows 10 to run as windows 7.

I too was in a similar situation but 8/10 times the apps worked when setting them to run in native w7 mode.

Might make you change your mind if you weren’t aware.

But id strongly suggest trying to upgrade to windows 10 either way for security reasons as well as further compatibility with w0w.

Thanks for your words.

I will buy a new computer late 21 / early 22 anyways and will use win10 then. But for now I will stick to win7 and not change the running system.

How I tested? I wun game in diffrent locations for a hour and then check fps drops and flickering issue. Flickering issue exist only on dx12 and dx 12 give mroe fps boost on high end graphic cards. Tested on 2080 and 3070. All windows updates and drivers are downloaded.
