Most loved/hated class

Hiya,

So throughout the years, I’ve seen alot of forum post with titles such as:

  • Blizzard hates Paladins.
  • Monks, the redheaded stepchild of WoW.
  • Nerf Demon Hunters.
  • etc. etc.

I understand that class balance is up and down, and FotM-classes will always be a thing, however it got me wondering;

  • In your opinion, what is the ONE class that always seems to shine, and which class always seems to get the short end of the stick?

I’ve probably been maining most classes at one point during my WoW-career, so no bias, however in my opinion:

Most loved class: Hunter or Mage. They always seems to have at least one spec in at least S/A±tier. Also they probably have some of the best utility in the game.

Most hated class: Monk or Warrior. Their damage always seems below average, especially as expansions are progressing, and their group utility is kinda lame. To be fair, their respective tank speccs, has had its glory days, just like all tanks speccs. However they often seem to be outshined by other tanking speccs.

Any other altaholics that have an opinion on this, and would like to share? I’m really curious as to what classes you guys consider overpowered/underwhelming.

Soooo I’ve played almost all leather classes and specs as mains at some point so I’ll review and answer the question as if it were only asked to those sooo
Most loved leather class and spec:
Demon hunter: I would say demon hunters, especially Havoc is always atleast a tier with the “right build”, although the “right build” does shift pretty frequently

Most hated/lost class and spec:
Druid: So although balance is most of the time good there are definetely times where it isn’t too great, but I think feral is the worst with consistency, rarely wll it get out of b or even c tier in most tier lists, last time people feared feral was in mop to my recolection, even though I love it so

From my experience over the years of playing WoW:

  1. Shaman has been the class that has been more often weaker across most areas of gameplay

  2. Mage has generally been consistently strong

Blizzard hates Paladins.
this is 159% accurate .
every year.
every new season/
every new world of warcraft /
paladin was getting nerfed in pve and pvp with every update
i played it for years and i can say it on my personal experience
because they made it so op that players of the other classes were hating it then they nerfed it to the ground and then everyone were playing something else so they decided to do a rework for it in DF and after that it was so god damn op in pvp that they nerfed it to the ground again and here we are
it seems those pvp developers doesnt know how to test it so they just release it on the online server and if players complain they nerf it so god damn hard that player will leave it again to play something else.

DH always seems to shine. Paladins are never top.

Depends on whether we talk about players or Blizzard.

For players, both Hunters and Demon Hunters are most loved and hated simultaneously. They are insanely popular because they are easy, very self-relied and can do a lot by themselves. They are hated by another side of player base for exactly the same reason (and because it’s a nightmare and very toxic for the game when they’re overtuned which happens pretty often, with the last big example being start of S3 with gigaovertuned DHs).

For Blizzard, I would say Rogues are the most loved and Monks are the most hated. Rogues always had at least one strong spec at the time in every content throughout the history of WoW. Monks, on other hand, have a strong history of falling off the climb every addon and sometimes it feels like Blizzard just don’t know what to do with this class.

Shining beacon of Blizzard’s love:
Druids, they seem to be the one class that has a powerful spec in each season.

Forgotten and forsaken:
Monk, I think Blizzard just wants people to forget MoP ever existed, and are now pretending Monks don’t exist.

Strangely Evoker despite being the new boy doesn’t seem to be massively popular and looking at the latest DPS is right down, normally new expansion/class is OP for at least that Xpac.
Most popular Mages for me.

I think druids is the class their like the most. Look at all they’ve gotten in recent expansion and patches. Makes sense too because they see druids as hippies and they’re all hippies themselves.

I think least loved class must be shaman. Yes it can be strong in the right hands but it has several weird outdated visuals, its kit for healing is quite basic. Its melee spec gets demolished in PvP because they have no decent defences.

Druid is the class that has been consistently viable and strong, shaman seems like its been consistently lagging behind the pack?

Probably the Druid love could be because, as Ion mentioned in the last round of QAs for 11.0, it’s the class they test things on since it’s the one with the most specs, and if they can make something work for Druid, they can do it for everyone else. So they receive quite a lot of effort due to these technical reasons (yet feral always sucks)

Blizzard hates [Shadow] Priests, they’re constantly changing it

Love: warlocks. They always have at least one very powerful spec and are frequently in the top.

Hate: windwalker monk. Crap damage, badly designed abilities/rotation, never receives significant updates/reworks.

Specs that Blizzard loves:
At least 1 spec on Warrior and Mage
Spec that Blizzard apparently hates:
Shadow Priest

Warlock is the most loved. Has had at least 1 spec in S tier in almost every expansion/patch, has had unique quests added to the game like the green fire, has by far the most consistently great tier set designs, is the most tanky of the caster classes, got arguably the coolest legion weapons and some of the best mounts and play a massive part in the lore, alongside Paladins and Shamans.

Warlocks have had it good over the years.

Worst treated is probably Monk. They’re rarely at the top in terms of performance and just get forgotten about for ages while everyone else seems to get at least some attention. The OG vanilla classes obviously have had more chances to shine, DK and DH get the most love of the hero classes and Evoker is new so obviously is getting attention. But Monk? It’s almost like Blizzard forgot that class and expansion even happened until they have finished tweaking everybody else and someone at the office watches Kung Fu Panda 2 and puts the pieces together.

  • Huntars

  • Cryladins

Thanks for giving us this opportunity.

It is hard to say because every class had atleast one spec that was strong throughout the years, so it is hard to pinpoint a class Blizzard “hates”.

Most loved has to be warlock. Not only they are the class which statistically always in the upper echelons of the damage meters, but also their utilities are still exclusive to them (healthstone, gateways and summoning).

Out of all the classes I can think of probably Monks fall into the neglected territory the most. Their only saving grace is that most of the time brewmaster is almost always decent to outright broken in raids.

I also don’t envy Feral druids either.

Rare day that mages are bad. Spec varies between expansions but one of them is always good.

Monks and shamans can be d tier for years without action and rarely bubble to the top, then get nerfed within weeks if they do. If you see them good, play them immediately!

DH

Edgy Ilidan-fan boys who because of bad tuning are topping DPS meter with like 50k difference at ilvl 460, which is impressive, considering that everyone who plays a DH is legally required to play with a blindfold at all times.

Mage is always viable everywhere, pve, pvp, M+, raid etc. All of it, it is the meaning of never being unplayable, has alot of versatile comps in arena too.

I don’t see that personally.
