Game balance wise I agree all should be the same, practically wise some will be ahead of others, but they should be close enough for skill to be the real test
Occasionally new changes may produce a clear winner, this is acceptable, and where possible should be brought more inline without needing to the bottom.
But some classes are very powerful lore wise, and I don’t think should ever be at the bottom and blizzard should
Make sure they are always on the top 10 if they lag behind.
*Devastation Evoker - dragon if devastation - c’mon apex predator
Destruction Warlock - dark and destructive
Devoured and Havoc Demon Hunter
Unholy and Blood DK - death incarnate , even though blood now is a tank, as a spent would be super powerful
Arcane Mage - the cosmic power of the universe and building block of matter
The rest don’t sound that powerful, but if you look at their kit they should be terrifying
Shadow Priest - wielding the power of the void and shadows. So powerful it maddens
Balance Druid - capable of calling down stars, surges of cosmic arcane power, celestial fire is heck powerful though the name
Subtelty rogue - uses shadows and poisons as a magical enhancement to deadly effect
Elemental Shaman - powerful combination of elements, anyone who can wield lightning is powerful
Fire Mage
Yes all the others can be deadly, but by name and power wielded the above should always be there but they either don’t sound that terrifying nor does their power feel quite so powerful.
Pretty sure its just druids, pretty much all powerful druids have been given almost demigod status. Their powers are versatile. Mages are second due to their power being again versitile and raw.
It also depends on their foe at the time.
With an axe crafted by a druid under the guidance of a demigod.
Lore-wise classes are not powerful, individuals are.
In game lore, you can have mages ranging from student level, to Jaina level (archmage +). With that in mind you cannot answer the question of who is the most powerful class in lore, but it devolves to “who is the most powerful individual in lore”.
So yeah, any “class” can be the most powerful in lore, as long as blizzard writes a character of that class to be the most powerful.
Some of the strongest characters in lore are warriors.
Problem is that the game world is not the same as the real world. Where in the real world physical might has limits tied to muscle mass and density, in game world this goes out the window.
So yeah you have warriors in game that are strong enough to stop behemoths, injure gods, battle whole armies etc.
The powerscaling is tied to the characters and not the class.
I would also say, that lore wise (no matter what real ingame situation is) there are few of them:
Mages - mastering raw arcane power just seems OP (e.g. Azshara, noted as the most powerful mage Azeroth has ever seen)
Druids - I would list druid not just from the pure damage perspective - druids are well rounded healers, shapeshifters and casters
Warlocks - mastering the demonic arts - summoning demons, using curses and decay
Priests - again - well rounded class - either powerful healers or masters of striking your mind, using shadow and void powers
Shamans - similar to priests and druids - versatile class - controlling and mastering the elements, or enhancing their powerful attacks with elements. Can use the elements to harm or to mend.
My view of Warriors in Warcraft is not as a simple soldier.
The warcraft universe is inherently “magical” so even warriors have magical powers, just manifested in other ways, like superhuman strength, speed, endurance and regeneration.
So I always imagine warriors to use some form of blood magic naturally to enhance themselves subconsciously, even some form of elemental magic in cases like thunderclap and shockwave for example.
Warriors make use of magic infused/enchanted gear, yes. They themselves, iirc, wield no magical power whatsoever. Strip off the gear & they are defenseless against something like a mage. Even a novice/initiate magical class, lore wise, should be able to make light work of an experienced veteran in said scenario (unfair IK), cheap shots not accounted for.
I have nothing against the class but power fantasy wise they can’t measure up. Add in a warlock or death knight to the mix and it no longer is even a debate.
(cuttin your qote short but replying to your whole post):
I get it, some individuals are strong, yes but from a lore perspective a general druid is more or less a demigod compared to the general warrior. Plot armor side, their power fantasy trivialize the stoic warrior.
We could use rogues instead of warriors, since they posses some magical talents (even if by a stretch).
My “sword to a gun fight” metaphor was just to highlight the gap between the power/lore fantasy.
Thanks for deva compliments.
I would like Frost DKs strong too.
What are strong lore wise are Paladins.
Even Arthas was paladin first.
And Turalyon,what a hero,also paladin.
