I really want to know who is responsible for mount achievements and their rewards because I think that person doesn’t play the game at all, or he/she/it is mocking collectors. Why do I think this? Well, we all remember the last achievement for 500 mounts. The first reward was a recolor of the yeti mount from MoP, better known as a recolor of the Minion of Grumpus mount from WoD. Like, for real, it was the worst possible mount to pick. That’s why I believe this person is mocking collectors rather than just not knowing the game.
Of course, this caused outrage among many players, so they decided to change the reward. It took a while, and during that time, on the PTR version of Wowhead, when you checked the reward for the 500 mounts achievement, it showed a different mount, a recolor of the Zereth Mortis frog. For real, it was the second ugliest mount in the game, just after the yeti. But that was only an image on Wowhead and never went live in the game, which just confirmed to me that the person responsible for mount achievements is really, really mocking collectors.
After two weeks or so, they came up with a recolor of the ottuk mount from Iskaara Dragonflight reputation mounts. People started complaining that the mount should be unique and special because of the way it’s obtained. So finally, they decided to put a Night Fae soulshape on it, and that was their final decision. This mount went live in the game, and at first, I thought it was the only mount that had both 100% ground speed and swimming speed. But later, I realized that other ottuks also have this.
In the TWW expansion, this mount is the only one that doesn’t have skyriding. Again, at first, I thought they were going to make it special, where this mount would have access to normal flying with skyriding enabled. That would have been awesome, no need to do a five-second cast to switch flying styles. But unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
Many collectors, including me, already have more than 1,000 mounts usable on a single character, and it’s time to change the person responsible for mount achievements to someone who actually knows the game and respects the players. Make some appropriate rewards. Personally, I would love to see a Swift Spectral Tiger in Night Fae soulshape.
