This is how I understood it too Wushupanda, but I wasn’t sure if I was correct. To be fair I was wondering if OP was more an issue because it was DS? Spine can be a pain for a lot of players, not that it is difficult to do, it just takes some practice
Thank you for the link its always good when somebody posts factual information instead of assuming others are wrong as is par the course for some posters .
Once these updates are implemented, entering a dungeon or raid that is trivial for you (i.e.: your character is more than 10 levels higher than the dungeon or raid’s intended level) will activate a “legacy loot mode.” That loot mode will work like this:
The number of items dropped by bosses will be the same as it would have been if you were in a full party. So if you’re in a 5-player dungeon, you’ll get 5 players’ worth of loot.
For raids with a flexible raid size (such as Raid Finder), this will act as though there were 20 players in the raid.

Achiever this to me suggests that your friend wanted to run solo so that if lucky and the mount dropped, then he/she alone would receive this. Even though I agree that raids can be more fun with friends, I still say that old raids such as DS which don’t require a group are better to solo.
Mounts in Dragon Soul are bonus items from specific bosses, they have to be picked up from boss’ corpse. So extra person in raid means halved chance to get the mount, unless only one of 2 needs it. Personal drop vanity items usually go to player’s inventory right on kill, like it happens with mounts and pets in bfa.
Not it doesnt half your chance at all that is such bad information .
For example i have the mythic gul dan mount from when current so by me having it already and being in your group and 20+ mount collectors from reddit with 600+ mounts each thoery crafted this your chance will increase .
You honestly think it goes from 0.1 down to 0.05 by having friends lol never read something so laughable sorry.
I am talking about chance to get the mount, not to see it droped. Drop chance remains the same, with 2 players in raid each has halved chance to get, because firstly mount has to drop, secondly, mount has to be won in roll duel.
You are presuming that both players dont have it , this is way ive said about the thoery crafting and looking at it from all angels .
This debate has been going on 15+ years since Stratholme .
Some think its better to solo some tbink its better with more .
Myself ive seen far more mounts drop in groups than i have solo
This is why there is 3 big discord servers with mount farming in mind with groups being set up .
The topic at hand is that both players dont have the DS mount, so OPs firend is correct that in taking OP fistly the mount has to drop and secondly it has to drop for him. Its not the drop chanse is halfed but that they share that 1%.
Obviously, i have even stated it in my first post in this thread
My druid alt once got 3 different mounts within very few kills, i still consider her my luckiest char despite not seeing any mount drop on her since then.
Then you would know 2 of the same mount have a chance to drop Lifebinder and 2 of the blazing drake very rare and the odds are insane on herioc 25man .
I’m going to say what people are afraid to say going in group increase the chance for the mount to drop but then there is a very low change YOU would get it, so cut the bs, we run alone because we don’t want to share nor seeing somebody else loot something you wanted
Think the problem is with the Gul’dan mount drop chance where this whole thing stems. From wowhead people seem to suggest you get split % value from the chance//how many people are in the raid.
Every other % was based on your personal loot table/chance you have no matter how many people where in the raid.
Also why would you incorporate in the discusion the Karazan ember mount since its also one of a kind specific loot table…just yikes.
+Also we are not sure how in some cases your drop is affected if you witnessed a drop to someone else.
The problem is also mounts like the wyrm from Tomb of Sargeras it is personal loot drop,it is not on the loot table to be roled of the boss. Also one of the specific scenarios when we talk about mount drops.
Simply put its not that easy, but overral the best think is to do raids that you can solo/solo.
