Mount drop manipulation

So.

Maybe I’m crazy, maybe I’m not. I’ll let you wonderful internet people, who are always dictated by logic, understanding and kindness decide, but I have theories on the “random” drop chance of rare mounts and other such collectibles.

I’ve been in and off, mostly on since the og vanilla beta. I have a bunch of collectibles I’ve farmed (and a bunch lost) in that time, but I’ve noticed some trends.

I have 3 wow licenses on my Battle.net, all of which have been active since at least 2005 and some since beta like I said, but since legion I’ve noticed when I cancel one (or two) for a few months and reactivate whenever I need to use the extras I get all sorts of rare drops.

For example, a few months ago I activated one of them and dual boxed Guldan, the recently activated from inactivity account got the mythic mount.

Another example, I stopped playing for a few months, came back and got invincible and ashes within an hour of each other (check my achievements) and mimirons head, if I remember right, in the next few weeks.

Now, compare this to my main account in the Battle.net that is almost always subbed and I spend a year with no drops. I multibox with one of the other accounts on my bnet that just resubbed and I get felsteel mount.

Maybe I’m crazy or maybe this company (which is actually designed to profit, despite what many fools believe to be about providing excellent gameplay) is giving quick wins to new subs and holding the long timers into a period of farming every week.

I even have a screenshot of getting both ZG mounts in the same run within a week of resub on one of my accounts.

Let me know if you’ve got similar… paranoia…

Edit: before you wonderful internet people who are always so wise and intelligent start shouting about multi boxing being illegal, I’m old school. Never used a program to do it, just played a couple characters on a big screen to farm mounts and pets with higher chances. Never been against the rules to do it that way so please don’t worry about using your ever so delicate finger muscles to reply with your distrust and anger against the big boy multiboxers, I’m just a scrub that liked the idea of shaman totem multiboxing in TBC.

What have you sacrificed to the loot gods? I gotta get one of those…

I have had same luck whenever I bought a new account or resubscribed being away for a long time.

i resubscribed a month ago and found out about the whole old naxx thing, while farming in stratholme for some scourge insignia or whatever they re called… i got Deathcharger’s reins.

I’ve heard various friends stories of good luck on their return.

I never remember to try for mounts after a break :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

I have also heard multiple stories like yours. Is it a coincidence or not, I don’t know. I wouldn’t exclude it being 100% true to be honest. I personally can’t confirm / deny this theory, as I’ve never tried it out myself. since I’m subbed to wow for the past 7-8 years nonstop.

All in all, getting mounts and other feats in wow, triggers the same proccess in your brain, as chocolate, sex and even alcohol do. The sign of relief + happiness when you obtain a new mount, especially an elusive one (Invincible, Ashes, etc.) produces alot of serotonin, which pretty much hooks you up further to the game, making you wanna play it even more.

This is something i noticed quite some time ago. It’s interesting to see that i’m not the only person to pick up on this.

I don’t think it’s even limited to mounts but rare gear pieces too. It’s like your drop % chances are buffed on a whole on a new sub or after a long break.

It makes sense in a way though that Blizzard might do this. A new/returning player getting rare rewards will certainly encourage them to sub next month.
