After playing retail for the first time for a few weeks now, I have to say I think the world looks great. Especially the modern areas of the game. The graphics are really nice and the game is smooth to play most of the time which is probably the most important thing! So I’m happy to play at graphics like this. I played a game of Korrak yesterday and there was no lag! Yay! The art team is really bringing the best out of low grahpics art.
The one glaringly obvious immersion breaker on an otherwise quite beautiful game, has to be my sitting postion on mounts.
I’ve been watching Asmongold videos for a long time before I decided to play retail myself, transmount competitions and mount offs! Mounts are one of the coolest things to collect in wow. I started collecting a few almost the moment I started playing!
What I can’t get over is how bad the mount sitting position looks. Like a weird t pose like thing that is the same on every mount… Mounts are such an important part of the game, it really takes me out of it immersion wise as everything else looks so good. I don’t mind in Zandalar npcs just floating on to the back of mounts in story parts and stuff like this, but me riding around on my precious mounts looking so wooden and game glitchy if you know what I mean, kinda ruins it for me. I can’t help but keep noticing it.
Maybe putting some reigns in their hands would at least stop it looking so bad as my hands are just floating there, it seems pretty normal to control 90% of the mounts in game with reigns in our hands to steer. That would be how you’d have to do it for real.
TL:DR Would love to see the mount sitting position look really cool and have custom positions for certain mounts perhaps if it needed it to look normal. Animations would be awesome too! Mount sitting position looks really bad
So much this. I bought the Luminous Starseeker from the Shop recently, but only a couple days ago I noticed that when I move on the ground on it, I was able to tell that my character’s hands were just… there. Angled, fingers slightly spread out, but holding onto nothing. Not to mention that in the mount’s idle animation, my hand clips through the mane.
Thanks! I haven’t collected much but I’m trying to look like a Dark Souls character, need to find some more to complete it but the WOD pvp set items were a nice find.
It’s funny you say that as I just wrote a post about this today!
It just takes a lot of time and effort to create a dedicated pose for every unique mount. So most of them use “generic horse riding pose”. It is also an olden way of doing things. Back then graphics were just a form of simplified graphical representation, your imagination had to fill the gaps and make it look better than it actually looks.
You just have to deal with it because I don’t see them going back and making dedicated poses for so many mounts.
I did say only if it really needed it as I realise doing it for every mount would be a huge task. Alot could probably share the same poses, but just 1 pose for hundreds of mounts seems a little too low to me.
I dislike having reigns to pull, I prefer letting my mounts do as they wish. I have grown a kinship with my tiger and hippogryth that lets them carry me where I wish to go on their own accord.
I would like to be able to hand my legs from the same side of the mount though, constantly spreading my legs across the saddle does hurt after a while.
