Mounts Overhaul - Breeding, Progression & Taming

I’ve not played Wow for a long time and recently returned for classic. I’m considering trying retail again in the future although for now I’m enjoying classic as I much preferred how it played out.

Between when I left WOW and since I came back I’ve played a ton of other MMOs and there’s one feature that is present in Black Desert Online that I think would be so awesome - Mount breeding, taming and progression.

Now hear me out for those BDO haters - In all honestly I cannot stand the game for the overwhelming shady micro transactions.

Imagine if;

  • All mounts had unique stats, levels, some were faster, some bigger, some smaller, some had different colour patterns etc…

  • Mounts could be levelled by using them and this would increase some stats and abilities

  • Mounts could be bred with other mounts to try and create the perfect mount for you

  • Some rare mounts roamed the world and could be tamed

I would love to see something like this built into wow. It would add a whole new end game path and economy for those that love to breed animals and make money from it!

I love that.

It could be a new profession, cattle farmer.

Sign me up. I like it!

This is entering R34 territory very quickly, especially with mounts which resemble raid bosses/NPCs, IE Onyxia, Deathwing, Alexstrazsa, etc.

In all seriousness however, it could be interesting. My only concern is that the amount of different mount types would lead this to be Pokemon levels of confusing.
Why can my Coalfist Gronnling breed with my Magic Rooster? There is no sense here.

Why we would need stats on mounts? if some mounts would be bigger and slower, but some smaller and faster then ofcourse most players will take fastest mount possible, because mount is purely utility in traveling faster. Sorry, but this is nonsence for me.

Of course you would make it so that only species of the same type could breed otherwise we’d end up with some Spore esque monstrosities

Mount breeding could be interesting thing as long as it would not be time gated. This means no waiting eggs to hatch, no waiting for baby mount to grow certain time (feed it every day) or other similar mechanics. Wow has already too much that style of mobile phone game mechanics where you have to wait instead of actually play.

If it would be system where you can tame, train and progress your mounts as much you want to at the time, it might be fun. It should be then open world activity that is not tied to other content, doable for all players on full.

This is the one thing where time gating would make a lot of sense from a RPG perspective

Didn’t your parents tell you about flowers and bees?

I would like them just to give more mounts to professions and make professions more relevant. WoW has a different system for mounts, and although it’s less developed, doesn’t mean we should just toss it out in favour of something completely different. Something that, in all honesty, is not part of this game.

A better option is to develop the system we have. For instance, instead of a ability slot for every mount, let ability slots be per mount to give us some options. Instead of giving a profession one simple mount, make it so we create a basic mount that can be upgraded and customized with the help of other professions.

Yesss! And farming too

Yes lets make another " pathfinder " that people need to go through another grind to use their mounts in the full capacity, hell no

As something to unlock recolours/different looks it might be interesting but I think as they’ve simplified flying (mounts no longer have different speeds) and have removed most specialisations like water walking that we’re unlikely to see us make the mount system more complicated again.

Animal Husbandry - New profession! Yes!

Breeding mounts and pets, creating unique stuff and even selling on some of your cross breeds for another player to make into a mongrel, take my money this is an awesome idea!

It would have been possible pre-wotlk. When the mount pool was relatively small.
But now it’s to big. It will cost way to much time to implement a system for this.
Especially if it’s only cosmetic.
Imagine all the new mount variations they’d have to introduce. Even if it were just recolours. They’d have to mix and match all possibilities.
They’re never going to do this unless it has an impact on the gameplay, Which will be the same mistake as with making Garrisons mandatory.
Garrisons had more viability than this to begin with.
It would be really cool to have this in a game like wow, but it’ll be to complicated to implement.

Just let me name my mounts like we can name pets. I’d love that.

Exactly, I like the idea but it doesn’t really work in a game as old as WoW where everyone is min maxing to the best of their ability. Needs a fresh game where everyone is clueless as to what they’re doing for systems like this to fully work.
