Mouse/KB Input stuck + Freeze + System-Wide USB disconnect

Hello,

Since yesterday, I’ve been experiencing a weird problem where the game freezes for a second, and the input from the mouse or keyboard gets “stuck.”

For example, if I press “A” during the freeze, my character keeps turning around. When I press the right mouse button and drag it to the right, the game freezes for a second, and the mouse ends up in the right corner of the screen. Similarly, if I press “W,” my character keeps running, and so on.

After a while, the issue worsens to the point where both the mouse and keyboard disconnect completely. I hear the “USB disconnect - connect - disconnect” sound in Windows. I have to restart my PC to get the mouse and keyboard working again.

This problem occurs only while playing WoW. Any other game or desktop usage works normally.

So far, I have tried disabling newly updated add-ons, disabling out-of-date add-ons, updating weak auras, deleting all weak auras, disabling all add-ons, and reloading the UI.

My system and drivers are up-to-date.

Try the usual troubleshooting for USB devices:

  • Unplug everything non-essential (eg. leave only mouse and keyboard connected directly to the computer, not through any hub)
  • Try different ports.
  • Try different mouse and keyboard.

All of those should help to rule out possible problems. Likely cause is malfunctioning device or driver.

I tried a different mouse and keyboard, different ports. The problem persists.

BUT: I am using a KVM. That is the only thing remaining, hardware-wise. I will connect my mouse and KB directly, without the KVM, and give feedback.

Happy New Year, btw.

I have had similar issues with my work Dell laptop when I am working from home as I use Aten234 USB-switch for keyboard and mouse. My personal primary computer doesn’t have issues but rarely similar lag and key repeats happen on the work laptop - they used to be more common and I also had USB disconnects, but I guess firmware or driver updates to the laptop helped a bit. Strangely similar Dell laptop I bought for personal use doesn’t seem to have issues - at least I haven’t yet encountered them.

So yeah, trying without KVM or USB-switch or any other hub would be helpful.

edit: While you mentioned that you have drivers and software up-to-date, double check that you have latest AMD or Intel chipset drivers from them directly rather than motherboard manufacturer. They are easy to miss and unless I am entirely mistaken can also include USB drivers.

Update: Yeah it was the KVM. No problems so far.

Still weird, that it only occurred while playing WoW. :person_shrugging:
