Mouseover on frame only

Hi all. So I’ve recently discovered the joys of enabling mouseover, and can now throw a heal out on my party member while beating on some mob and not having to deselect them. However, I’m constantly finding I’m “out of range” even though my targeted enemy is right in front of me, because my cursor happens to be hovering on a mob 40 yards away. Or I go to heal myself and it lands on one of the 47 imps my Warlock part member has out, again for the same reason. So, is there a way I can have it so mouseover casting will ONLY work while mousing over my own or a party member’s portrait/party frame? And not on a target in the field? Many thanks for any advice! x

Addon Clique. You described why i can not without it.

Fantastic, I have so few addons I forgot to even look out for something like this, I’ll check it out

Vuhdoo and Healbot acheive the same thing with less UI customization than Clike.

It kind of depends on how you have your UI set up. If you got the default blizzard one, then I would suggest starting with VuhDoo first. It sets you up with a couple more things that are also usefull.

For example who has your buffs, and with the “targeted spells WA”

https://wago.io/GZMPP3LDH

It also shows on the party frames who will be hit by what. This is super usefull for M+.

Once you got your basic UI and WA rolling you can get more creative with customization using ElvUI so that it fits your specific playstile. And then you use Clike to bind all the spells to that ElvUI customization you have.

However. If you already have the UI just the way you like it, then Clike on its own will do perfect, as Tsjoh mentions.

Helpfull NOTE :

You can also bind offensive spells with clike (and VuhDo). It helps a lot to de-clutter key binds. What you do is you put your target as a box right on top of the party frames. When you click on any of those boxes (party frames or target) it casts a heal if friendy. And an offesive spell if hostile.

Clique has no UI customizations. It is a spellbook where you mouseover an ability and it sets up a keybind on unitframes (by default).

You are correct. I did not express myself properly.

What I wanted to say is that IMO Clicke is best used on top of a customized UI with ElvUI rather than the default Blizzard one. And if OP dosent have one, its best to install VohDoo to begin because it includes the custom party frames.

Just wanted to say that.

If you don’t want any addons like Clique installed (although it’s a great addon) I might be able to help you with some workarounds with macros, depending on what you want your macro to do.

If you dont mind, just show your macro here and tell me what you want it to do and I’ll see if I can help.

What we want is having Holy shock heal when mouseovering a unitframe, and otherwise holy shock the selected target. Not holy shock any modal (friendly or enemy) in the field when you have your mouse somewhere.

As far as i know you can not do that with a normal macro.

This guy is old school…

I am amazed by how these macros are made. Never really understood the logic of macro codes.

#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,help][@target,harm]holy shock

That’s the closest available thing, it’ll prioritize casting on friendly mouseover (frame and sadly nameplates/characters), othervise it’ll cast on the targeted enemy.

It’s not exactly what you ask for, but I usually play while having left or right click clicked in to hide the cursor so with such a playstyle it would do exactly what you ask for

You can use

#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,help][@target,harm][´]holy shock
(remove the ´ othervise macro won’t work, but I have to include it to post the macro here on forums)

to make the macro cast holy shock at yourself if you have no target selected, and no mousover.

The problem with this is that it binds too on characters in the field.

When i want to holy shock my target, but my mouse is in melee on for example the tank, or myself, or another melee target, it heals that target, instead of just holy shocking my target.

Yeah, that can’t be circumvented I’m afraid, unless you do like I do and always play with left/right mousebutton clicked down to hide the cursor (except when I actually want to mouseover a frame to heal). That way, with the cursor being hidden, you can’t accidentally mouseover a friendly character.

Well, that is why we got clique
Set up all your mouseover macro’s that only bind on unitframes.

Yeah I’d also suggest to download clique, this is more of a workaround if you desperately don’t want to do that. Also Clique lets you use left click/right click as mouseover keybinds too, which gives you 2 (or more with modifiers) extra keybinds to use.

I’ve been using clique for years, can really recommend it.

I dont use clique or any other heal addon and I heal pvp with mouseover macros, I have never had any problem, not with few help harm macro I use either. I need mouse for controlling movement so I have select party binded on wheel aswell but I mostly manage mouseovering over partyframes anyway which are moved close to middle for this reason.

I don’t know about pvp. But in dungeons it is very normal to have the group clumped up with the mobs or boss. And when you want to use your lava surge-proc on a mob or boss, you end up healing surging one of your friends because your mouse has trouble hovering the enemy-target with all those character-models around it.

This is why we want healing surge only bind on unit-frames.

I have chain heal and lava together cause I never chain heal on myself, and I chain heal on party frame and surge I have no harm macro with it. I guess CH could start casting by accident on friendly If mouseover while wish to lava on enemy, Ive never had this though but youre right it is possible.

When i installed clique i was maining a holy paladin, and my holy shock never landed on the target i wanted  That spell also works on both friendly and enemy. It heals friendly or damages an enemy. It was very frustrating. I had it all the time. Clique is never getting uninstalled

Rshaman has a lot of abilities, addons or macros are essential :dracthyr_nod:

I feel Im constantly global starved pressing 10 buttons and still not doing much, annoying abilities like unleash life on 15sec cd to buff next heal. Meanwhile disc pressed rapture on 1.5min cd and spams bunch of 3mil shields without cd from one button :joy:

If they ever do another rsham rework I wish to see some abilities pruned and the ones left to buffed on a state that they dont need some other ability constantly pressed on short cd to buff it, its really annoying gameplay and creates button bloat that creates this whole situation of we needing combine spells with macros or addons.
