Mouseover/highlight and clicking in wrong location

I am unable to find a solution for this and I have taken some extreme measures to fix it without any success.

The problem is: Putting your cursor over a player gives you a tooltip with level, race and class etc. For me when I put my game cursor in a clear area where 0 players are standing it shows tooltips of players (just like if you was to mouseover them in the game world). When this happens I can even left-click and target them even though my cursor is nowhere near them, this player could be completely behind me.

  • Happens a lot in combat (but sometimes out of combat)
  • Seems to be someone in close range
  • Always someone in my Raid/BG
  • Flickers multiple times with different players (example: a warrior nearby, then some rogue, then back to the warrior. My cursor is completely still on the corner of my screen while this is happening)

It’s like some player/frame is under my cursor but it happens all over the screen in any location. This bug can be very aggressive in a raid environment with spells/heals happening all over (40 people in close range)

What I have done so far:

  • Disabled all addons and was still happening (need to retest this one by one again as I have reinstalled Windows 10)
  • Changed wow.exe to overwrite high dpi scaling by ‘Application’
  • Reset Interface, WTF and Cache folders
  • Run Wow on default UI except Tinytooltip, so tooltips appear next to my cursor to easily see this bug happening (Tiny isn’t causing this issue, was happening with other tooltip addons)
  • Reinstalled Wow
  • Reinstalled Windows 10
  • Tested a different mouse
  • Disabled all possible overlays (even deleted them)

I’m determined to get rid of this problem so if there’s anything I’m missing that could help fix this please post below and I will try it

Thanks

I have the exact same problem, haven’t been as good as you on figuring out a solution. But I know the struggle, it is a pain to deal with.
Also this issues only seems to be connected to wow.
