Moving Wow to SSD

Hey guys, I know we can move the wow to ssd by copy the whole folder, but do I have to reinstall the battlenet launcher on ssd also ? Or just cut paste to ssd then open launcher which is not located in ssd and open the game from there ? Just wondering in case , so i will redownload the launcher on ssd also

Launcher can be anywhere you just have to direct it to the ssd wow folder.

I did that once, tried to copy and paste to my second harddrive. But it didn’t work form me afterwards. Safest is probably just to reinstall it on your ssd.

bnet can be anywhere, u can then update the address folder from where it seeks wow game on the bnet options, but i strongly advise to just install wow again, then make sure the new address is correct

only the game needs to be in the SSD, i have wow in SSD and other blizz games on normal disk

I don’t think there’s much performance gain in having the launcher itself on the SSD, with the possible exception of when patching/downloading the game, but if you want that there too it’s better to reinstall it. You can manually tell the launcher where to find WoW, or indeed any game it manages, in the settings. Personally I have copy-pasted Starcraft 2 in addition to WoW, and that also worked just fine after redirecting the launcher to its new location.

Man It took me 4 days to download it, 80gb. I’ll have heart attack lol

If only the game needs to be in ssd not the launcher then i’ll be good to go. Altho not sure what problems i might have ? From what you said

bnet settings >game install update ,there you can choose game folders ,bnet can stay where it is

Install it anew, halt the installation, copy files over to the directory, click on the repair option and let it run through.

You can completely move wow to any disk you want as long as you move the whole folder. You have to afterwords check on launcher setting that it recognises where your game is now and change it to right directory if needed. There is absolutely no need to reinstall the game.

Leafkettle here’s suggestion is also a good one. This way you won’t get wonky entries in registry and other various clutter. Not really a major concern, but it’s still better that way.

Alright, thanks guys. I will reinstall the launcher on ssd then move the wow folder to ssd and let it load from there.

You can just move the files to an SSD. The only thing you will have to do is tell the bnet launcher where the game is located.

Some said better to install launcher fresh on ssd, i’m concern if I remove bnet launcher from windows program to reinstall it , to have some issues. If the launcher isnt on ssd, i assume it wont effect anything as long as the game is on ssd right ?

Launcher is just fine where it is. Letting it stay certainly won’t make anything worse.

I did the same as everyone else, I moved the World of Warcraft folder to my SSD and told the Bnet launcher to look there for it.

If you do reinstall don’t forget to copy your WTF and Interface folders to somewhere safe.

I havent read the comments and im not expert but I would move the wow folder over > install blizz launcher > it will auto repair or add anything thats missing. Good day to you.
