Also called a Paladin.
I don’t think there’s an issue with a Hunter being adept at melee fighting or a Rogue who can use ranged weapons or tap into Shadow magic (these are things that have been displayed in game)
Its when we get the weird tauren elemental warrior shaman who can apparently use lava burst to heroic leap to another continent, and who is infused with the soul of a fire elemental.
Or an undead clockwork monk who apparently uses shaman abilities.
Like, a Warlock using Void magic isn’t nonsensical due to the hazy-wavy nature “shadow” magic has been shown over the years.
Oh yea, multiclassing totally works! As long as you can make it sensible to the character there is nothing wrong with it at all!
Definitely do-able. Just don’t go over the top.
And as long as it’s justified, IC, or let’s say, they’re already proficient in one ‘class’ and are in the process of learning how to utilize another classes attributes (not necessarily, being two classes but applying the concept of the idea) to their advantage. There’s no limit, but I wouldn’t say a person is proficient in both - or more - classes. One is a primary, with the most focus, and the other is a secondary sub-standard boost to add unique-ness and grant you more mobility in terms of roleplay!
I have some doubts the OP is still checking in on the thread considering it didnt see any replies for 2 months until it was revived just now.
Still may be useful for others I suppose.
You can mix and match so many things in RP and I find it amazing. I tried a Hunter that used shadow magics to enhance his arrows many years ago.
I do believe the saying “Jack of all trades, master of none” should be remembered when multiclassing to some extremes.
I think RPing someone with Archbishop levels of light, Archmage level of magics, Valajar levels of Hand to Hand combat, and Archdruid level of wielding nature is way too much.
Strike a fine balance and come up with good reasons. As someone said, there are Queldorei mage priests about, although I think they get their power from the same source. That being the Sunwell. I could be wrong
I could see overlaps between certain classes that share themes - warriors, rogues and hunters for instance. Less so the case with a combined warlock and holy priest.
I am a stylish noble commoner who has a poor fashion sense.
I would advise against multiclassing magical practices overmuch as it’s specifically called out as a super rare thing and part of why Med’an was hunted by the twilight’s in his comic.
And perhaps why I hear everyone seemed to hate him and a reason why he was retconned
In this case the saying goes “dont steal all the thunder to yourself”. And one might find himself doing exactly that when he is versed in so many fields and having the answer to everything.
It is understandable that we want to be active and participate and its easier when our tool box is large ( many skills and classes) but in such a case we open ourselves to god modding which is not fun for the other members.
So i’d suggest to either:
- choose a specialization as was mentioned above and another class or skill you dabble in but you are not that good with ( this is also fun because failing is a character motivator and personifier, the way you deal with it and how it affects you tells much about your caharcter when you only had this beginners skill to use and you couldnt do it).
- make both skills on an intermediate level, not too shabby but not that good that you beat a master in his craft. This makes it reasonable and keeps the story open for others to excel too. You have more tools in the box, but they can pool this one tool that is special to them.
Also, try to either make the skill fit the race, culture, or experiences he might have had based on lore (similar to NPCs we see). Following for example race lifespan, wars and trainings he might have gone through following Azeroth events etc.
Or you can make a completly random combination but then play on what he sacrificed for it, how he is bad at his original calling that he forgo to take up this dream of his (a death knight paladin using the light on a path for redemption, a non elf demon hunter who is tracking Illidan’s foot steps trying to emulate him and more).
These two will ground you from trying to be everything and everyone at the same time.
Good luck sir Skills-alot and may your toolbox never rust!
