Multiclass RP?

Hey ya'll. Just curious, what's the opinion on roleplaying multiple classes and what's the most outlandish combo you'd accept? I think most classes can be '+Warrior' for RP, but what about roleplaying a Fire Mage in touch with the fire elements to dabble in shamanism, or a Paladin who uses some Arcane?

Thoughts?
Depends on the classes and race

It depends largely on the classes and race like Frederick said. For blood elves, arcane and light mixes -- in Warcraft 3 their priest unit was called the Mage-Priest and they had both Arcane and Light abilities to boot.

If it's being used to replicate a type of character we've already seen in-game, like a tide sage as an obvious example, I see no problem with it. If it's being used for a character that's wielding these multiple powers in a weird and totally unique way with no canon justification for it, then I'm a little bit more skeptical.

In the case of the former, I'd say refrain from doing that, as we don't know how exactly fire and frost magic (as used by mages) relates to the elements. If this was your idea for how to tackle a DI Dwarf, though, then I suppose it's possible as their "fire mages" would be more akin to shamans using exclusively fire magic. Just grab a title of a random fire-casting DI Dwarf NPC and slap that on your character as his class.

I think the latter case would actually be quite possible, but it depends on your race. If you want a character who is a paladin capable of using both the Light and the arcane, then he'd either have to have a lifespan long enough to give him the time to become versed in both or (and?) natural affinity with (arcane) magic... so basically, draenei and blood elves.

Just my two cents on your specific examples.
As a skillset widens they become less in-depth. Just don't be one of those guys thats a master or everything and avoid mixing some bizzare stuff and you'll be fine.

Generally anything mundane can mix with something magic, but not all magic mixes with magic

I think everybody else here has stated how I'd handle it.

I personally have a night elf rogue/druid.

And my warlock was a mage before he became a warlock so he has some crossover there.
Multiclassing has been a staple of fantasy roleplaying since D&D, so I don't see why not. Just make sure you have an explanation for how your character learned two or more skillsets, and that it took reasonable time for each.

Also what Razsan said.
Its definitely doable. Just not all combinations. But doable.

A classic and most reasonable being the combination of a magical practice with a physical one. Paladins come to mind as they were originally just priests that were then taught in physical ways later.

In my own case, the combination of arcane (mainly frost) and archery.
The magical abilities can also come based on a races natural affinities. In the case of Belves and Helves that would be arcane. And by extension also Velves who also has the void, granted they're -far- less practiced in the latter as of yet.

And even belves and helves still need to train to use magic (beyond maybe small tricks). They just learn it faster as they can skip the whole basic training as its naturally at their fingertips. This also happens to be why im only willing to IC'ly train blood elves, high elves or void elves in arcane. I cant begin to wrap my head around how to make other races get in touch with the arcane first. I imagine it kinda like trying to make someone use a muscle they didnt know they had.

I do it on Zarale. I play her both as a Priest and a Paladin. She was a priest first, then did paladin training.
I play my rogue as having shadow magic affinity and using that to perform rogue staples such as Shadowstep and Stealth.

Multiclassing is fun and allows for interesting combinations where the sky is the limit. Big yes from me if you can make it not silly.
Nothing wrong with them, if the combination itself makes sense. Personally, I don't think it makes sense with for example void elves to play anything but their current class+shadow priest hybrid in most of the cases. Why'd they abandon their own homeland, go train in the rift and go as far as hearing voices in their heads to not use the newly learnt void magic. Or a Lightforged Draenei who doesn't use the Light in any way... why'd one do that.

I'd argue that for some, the whole incident of their... mutation, I guess? Yeah, mutation, was a bit traumatic and a big ol' warning sign to not sink -any- deeper into the Void.

There is nothing with multi classing:)
I myself have my human mage/hydromancer that has always been a mage at heart but recently heard a call from the elementals. It is after all said that anyone can commune with the elements if the elementals want to.
I would say that like other before that don’t go to overhand with it, pick reasonable classes to combine.
Take some classes that fit together
You can’t take a void priest and then put light magic in with it, wouldn’t work out.
Same with a necromancer and a druid, though the Kul Tiran has such kinds I wouldn’t recommend it with other races than KT.

But go ahead and try it out for yourself!
You can also come with examples you might want to try and see what people say:)

im a death demon hunter knight : )

And for you, vile demonic undead fiend! A boulder to the head!

technically, paladins are already a multiclass, as they’re just plated priests with combat training. if i recall correctly one of the first human order was found during the second war.

biggest example of a multi-class; mage turning warlock. more specifically in the transition from one into the other, but there’s a window where they multi-class. use fireball with a side curse of corruption.

You should try a priest/warrior. Use the light from the priest and the armour/weapons from the warrior.

Then you will grow strong so I can see you raised as my subordinate…

inserts sarcasm If i were you, i’d be a battlewarrior fire mage who communes with the elementals of azeroth and beyond while you swap back and forth through the void to slap alleria’s bum and occasionally use some light spells to heal your fellow man and woman after you stabbed them like a true rogue who just came out of stealth while you respect the pandaren laws in your monk outfit. And if you die, you can allways add “death knight” to your class trp.
